“Did you guys rent Rat Sacks at the canyon last year? I'm not opposed to owning one, (seems like it might be handy for treeless places), but can't find one to buy anywhere online yet. Is there a brand name I should be looking for? Sifting through all the extermination sites is getting old.”
“I own one and it's very nice. Others had a ursack and that seemed to work. Some used protein powder cans and that also seemed to work.
“i used a regular nylon sack and put it in ed's ursack.”
“Bright Angel and Indian Gardens have ammo cans, if Clear Creek does too we won't need to bring our Ursacs or Ratsacks. Does anyone know? (just trying to save every ounce, means I can carry more beer) ;)”
“The permit actually says:
Hikers may not camp anywhere West of the large trailside cairns (rockpiles) in Sumner Wash. These cairns are knee to waist high and are on both sides of the trail (like a gate). Rodents aggressively raid camps, bring rodent proof containers to store food.
We will pass Sumner Wash on our way to Clear Creek. I am thinking this warning was printed on our permit because we elected to spend time in the Clear Creek Zone.
When I call the Backcountry Office today I will ask about food storage at Clear Creek but I am betting you will need to make sure your food is rodent proof.”
“LMAO! Carry more beer. I love it, Paige. Love it!”
