1- Social Security (for the old and the disabled)
2- Medicare
3- Medicaid
4- public education and safety (police and fire)
5- vast network of public roads, water sytems, sewer sytems, airports, trains
6- upwards of 40% of the countries land in the public trust
7- upwards of half of the agricultural production purchased by the governments for redistribution

lonesurver, except for 4 and 5, I would eliminate the things you mentioned. I believe the government is here primarily for two things: (1) Public safety (includes military, police, etc.) and (2) infrastructure (roads, water systems, etc.)

The roads were great, the trains were all new and working on time, there was building going on all over the place - people filled street cafes in all these regions.

The wall came down when my friend's wife was 13. Since then she's attended a top university, and is now to complete her PHD. In fact she flies into Dulles airport on Tuesday to speak at a major conference in DC.

when profit is being made at the expense of people's way of living, then changes have to be made.

just like you dont enjoy knowing that tons of tech jobs are shipped overseas (even though it costs less for the companies to do so, and maximizes their profits, something you seem to think is a central economic dogma), the bolivians dont like knowing that a large majority of the money being made from their natural resources doesnt go to anyone in their country.
