Anyone tried letterboxing?

“I'm curious if anyone here has tried letterboxing. My brother and sister-in-law do it with their kids, who love it. It's sort of an easier version of geocaching.

“No, I haven't tried it. Seemed to me to be the thing Muffy and Biff would do in their Range Rover that has never left pavement.

“We are planning on doing it, there are several sites nearby. We need to make our stamps.

Anything to get the kids who don't hike much outside.

“I took Stacia and friends quite a bit when she was younger. Each had their own compasss and it was great fun to watch them talk, try to figure out the directions and get excited when they found it. I suppose it depends on who plants them too. There are some people that are very creative with the story lines for a whole series of boxes and the kids end up hiking 5 miles without even knowing it.

They didn't take the same to geocaching, thought it was boring.

I did buy all the stuff and help them make their own stamps, but for me, I just bought one at the craft store :)”

“Yeah, they look pretty easy to find.

I bought a certain kind of eraser to make the stamps with. My kids like to create as well, so it will be cool to see what they come up with.”

“i keep meaning to but haven't gotten around to it...i'm too cheap(big surprise) to get a GPS and i've already found all the geocaches around me that can be found without a gps”
