Same stuff, different talking head. Discovery/Times has run similar stories. PBS as an episode of P.O.V. that was real good a couple weeks back. It showed a Sunni doctor and his family in their daily routine before, during and after the fall of Saddam. They show the election process everyone went through for the first government, his visit to Abu Ghraib after the photos were released, etc. This doctor eventually ran and lost in the local elections.

It was a good piece. I highly recommend.

by the way, the guy you are talking about founded psychoanalysis. william james is usually credited with founding psychology. the field has been expanded by a dearth of people who are usually recognized as being some of the smartest in the last century. skinner, maslowe, piaget, rescorla, seligman, wundt, etc.

its all a bit complicated. not sure if it wouldbe your 'thing'.

Difference between Psychology and Psychiatry...Psychiatrist is a man who studied medicine their whole life but practices psychology which they never studied. Psychologists KNOW THEIR STUFF.

I particularly love the way they will prescribe (Psychologists use DOCTORS to do it) med after med after med without ONE freaking test. It is all seat of the pants DRUGGING of patients. So the Zoloft ain't working...we can cap you on something else. Heck keep adding on until the patient is Psychotic...then give them something else. Don't believe me...I can show you lists of patients who were so drugged they heard noises...then when they were weaned off the drugs became normal and returned to society. What was the famous study where 19 or so students checked themselves in to mental facilities saying they were hearing voices...then started acting normal...I think the last took something like 3 months to be released....IN fact the only way PSSSYCHOLOGISTS will stop treating you is for your insurance to run out (LOL). Yeah real interested in the patient.

If a Bull#&%!$ter either a PHd or MD hurts the patient due to crappy diagnoses...no biggie they claim OOPSIE. THen they FEEEL their way out of it.
If ANY other profession dealt with patients that way...(okay Lawyers can too but Hey you know my opinion) they would be sued out of business and have their license pulled.

To me and at this point, Iran and NK having the bomb has more to do with what the US will give these punks, rather than what kind of actual threat they are to us. Both of those countries are more of a threat to the countries around them, than us. These countries are just playing the usual chicken game with us. Nukes gives them a lot of power in a short period of time.

IMHO, going after NK instead of Iraq was the move to make. If we were going to have some sort of egg on our faces, I would rather it have been dealing with N. Korea.

That's a pretty good criticism of psychology. Much of the theory in psychology is academic BS. Where it really counts - clinical - there's really no good understanding of the biology behind mental illness, so there's few good diagnosing tools or assessments of treatments. I saw this first hand while working in the loony bin. The real future of psychology lies with the guys in the white lab coats who are studying the brain (i.e. the molecular biologists and the biochemists). Not the academic schmucks or people like pedXing. Hopefully psychology the academic field will soon fade away as a laughably archaic concept.”

Mutt is exactly right. The more we are learning about the brain the more we are learning that many of the "Good practices" fo the past were like bleeding patients in the 1700's. Many practicing BS'PHD/MDs ar there for a control thing. They control the patient's life so the patient never really learns to deal with problems on their own. As a result they get to use thier humanist beliefs to play GOD ALMIGHTY..and they get slaves. They reccomend "feel good" solutions, you know GET in Touch with your feelings, address your pain..crap so that the patient will keep being overloaded and STILL NEED THEIR DIRECTION. And like an overly controlling spouse they will continue to tell the patient, either play my way or you ARE ON YOUR OWN.

I always loved the treatment for Alchoholisim. Step one - Medication and Anabuse...if that doesn't work send them to a facility to clean them up $$$$$$$$$$$ KACHING....if that doesn't work send them to a facility for a bit more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$Kaching....when insurance runs out....um dude we are sorry try AA....LOL.
