“O hello I am not run off yet Mom just made me go to bed, even though it wasn't a school night but I'm grounded so I'm really not even supposed to be on here but I said I was doing homework and I have to be on the net and usually she falls for that everytime.
So I want to know about hiking i have been reading a book about the appalachian trail and it looks like it would be hard but fun and I don't think my mom would let me go out into the woods to do that stuff alone yet but it really seems fun what do I need to know and how can I convince mom that its ok?”

Search the web for hiking clubs in your local area or contact your closest state or national park. They may have some info to share with you.

Start out with some short dayhikes. Get your mom to go with you.

The AT takes like six months to do. You defintely have to work up to it. Crash did the AT, maybe he'll post something for you. I think he posted some trail journals in the last week or so that you could read.”

“I tried to get mom to go but she works and goes to school to so she gets really tired and doesnt like to camp or nature stuff anyway and when I told her I want to go camping she said no that I would die out there or get west nile or eatten by a bear and I think she is just being dramatic but she says it happens all the time. “Sure we have trolls here in the mountains (Common Mountain Trolls) and a lot of trolls far up in the nordic countries (Great North Trolls), but can somebody explain me what sort of trolls you're talking about on TT ??”

“euro hike - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll for definition of troll but in general TT thas been trolled so much through the years that any newbie is considered to be a troll until it is established by the community that the person behind the login name is real - typically for TT this involves the newbie going backpacking or at least meeting with known real TTers and the TTers reporting on the encounter - for the most part this works although there have been some frauds perpetrated by multiple TTers - the BuddhaBear / Tarabull affair of a few years ago comes to mind as a classic multi-TTer fraud”
