Night hiking down Sugarloaf- Devils Path TRView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 8 of 8 messages posted.
“This weekend, I and two friends tackled the eastern half of the Devils Path. The weather was perfect, deep blue, cloudless skies, and the temps were fairly warm. The views, particularly from Twin, were incredible, as were the deep, mossy spruce forests on the summits. Due to our late start, and some ice on Sugarloaf heading into Mink Hollow, we descended Sugarloaf in the dark. That was interesting as we scrambled down boulders and ledges with our headlamps, always watching for ice. We camped at the shelter in Mink Hollow, and had it all to ourselves. It was a beautiful night. The climb over Plateau wasn't as brutal as I remembered. Overall, a great trip!” 6:43:42 AM 11/27/06 “Is this in PA?” 9:01:25 AM 11/27/06 “What? It didn't rain?” 9:07:07 AM 11/27/06 “I did that trail last April with icy conditions. I specifically remember one 30' long shoot covered in ice on Sugarloaf. I can't imagine going down that section in the dark.” 9:09:19 AM 11/27/06 “No, in the Catskills, NY. No rain, not a cloud in the sky. Sugarloaf was tricky, I even fell once.” 9:29:33 AM 11/27/06 “Sounds nice and the weekend weather was excellent for hiking.” 9:34:41 AM 11/27/06 “good TR! Pics? any pesky porcupines?” 11:01:11 AM 11/27/06 “Sugarloaf is murder on the quads, lots of loose rocks and a fairly steep downhill. Must have been pretty tough in the dark.” 8:40:02 PM 11/27/06
