“Ok, little more detail, it's a classic design of a pack, but it is big and heavy and perhaps a little dated. It you're looking to lug 80llbs of gear on multi-week treks then it's ideal.”

“It all depends cold - try and work out what you're going to need to carry, then look at what you're going to need to carry it. Big packs can be great, but the trouble is that you'll end to fill them, take stuff you don't need and be weighed down the entire trip.”

“Cold - as marko said, it's a great pack for the depth of winter when you need to take a shed load of beer, I mean gear somewhere.

Five-day trip in sub-zero conditions then the Dana could well be perfect. As huge packs go it's great.

I want a pack that can handle.....50 for beer or 25 for summer.As far as winter i think i be O.K. no beer.

So why should i give up the best of both when i can pack light or ......fat,and still feel good with dana?”

“Dana packs, although heavier than many new lightweight packs, are engineered so well, that you don't notice the difference in weight. Of the packs that I've owned (Kelty, Mountainsmith, REI, Granite Gear), my Dana Glacier is by far the best in comfort and design. It's worth $300, but like a few here have stated, look for deals, they are out there. You could prolly get that pack for $250 somewhere.

I used to use my terraplane for week long (6 night 7 day) winter trips. I bought a REI Mars last year and I think (for me) it carries as well as the terraplane and it weighs less and costs less.

During the warmer months I use my Kelty flight for weeklong trips.”

“maple, I respect your request, but nearly every region has someone/place that rehabs animals (or at least every place that is in a hurricane alley which mostly where I have lived). Don't you think people would be better off supporting the rehaber in their own area?

whoops, just saw the last part of your second post. If its just registering your pets anonymously and it helps that place get improvements then thats great. Just don't sell my name and address to advertisers.

“yes I do, I have taken baby squirrels, birds, rabbits. etc. to them. The place had a lot more exotic stuff than that there too. people bring weird stuff into this country :).

Another group I know took a baby squirrel and a baby raptor back to their rescue on a single trip. It made me think how fun that place would be if the animals got loose :)”

the funny thing is, a few years back there was an injured squirrel, everyone came to me to help. at the time I was not a lic rehaber so I was unable to help nor did I even know who to go to. you try to find one online and most of the time the name ends up being a dead end. sometimes rehabers do not want there name out there in fear everyone and there mothers will call them all the time.”

“The first time I used a exotic animal rescue here it took a while to find them. It took a lot of flipping through the phone book. Its probably easier now with the internet except that after a hurricane (like the first time I needed one) I usually don't have electricity much less internet access.

I don't give them money like I should. When I take a critter I drop money in their donation box or if I see collection jar (at pet stores usually) I put money in.”
