For those staying Sunday and/or Monday, good luck with Slate Run -- iffn you don't have waders, you're gonna get wet for sure...

(Enter: Flashbacks of crossing the Loyalsock Trail's thigh-high Ketchum Run on a rather hot, humid, rainy July afternoon. Of course, the mercury was well into the 90s that day, but I guess you can't have everything...)

Now aren't we full of good news, Phantom!

But isn't that part of the adventure of this trip? I just hope my fat butt makes the climb AFTER slate run...

in the event that Slate Run is too dangerous to ford, we can walk to PA 414 and cross the road bridge and then back to the BFT.

As of 5PM today Slate Run, Little Slate Run and Naval Run were less than knee deep at Pine Creek. The showers that were predicted for this evening have not arrived. Snow melt is down to less than 6 inches in the woods. 2 days of 60 degree weather should take it away, leaving trace amounts on the north slopes and shade. USGS stream guages at Cedar Run and Waterville have shown significant drops since last week. High water does not appear to be an issue for you.

Looks like a go for the weekend. I will give you another update tomorrow evening. I would have liked to accompany all of you for the weekend. Its my duty weekend at work.
I have a free morning Tuesday and may meet you on trail after work around 830 AM.

Conundrum
The #&%!$ has hit the fan at work. I have the knowledge and ability to set things straight and save myself a boatload of trouble down the road. But to do so I would have to bail on this trip.

What should I do?
nogranola

quit your job, go on the trip and then market yourself to the competition?

well maybe not....
Ramblinrev

that's a tough one nogranola....

if it were me..... I'd prolly go on this trip, but i've got too much money spent already to bail under almost any circumstance (plane tix for me and two for my kids to ship them off to their mom's). If it were a local trip, i might feel the need to take care or work first.

Deer and fog
At 8PM this evening I made a pass through the canyon on 414 enroute home. There was a major melt in the snow today. Presently a light rain is falling after 3 hours worth of showers. At Slate Run Village behind the Hotel Manor Slate Run is knee deep and rolling some. Nothing severe. Little Slate and Naval Run are the same. I counted 10 deer in the yard next to the hotel. People in the village see bears often, but the farther you are from the village, the less frequent they become.
It is very foggy tonight, I would expect the same the next few nights. Probably not as bad up near Black Forest on 44, but thick in the canyon. Great night for ghost stories.
So there ya have it. Enjoy yourselves, be safe. Hope to see you Tuesday morning.

Rob, I really am going to try to make it. But at some point in the past ten years I became a responsible adult. I'm not sure how that happened and I'm more than a little unhappy about it.
