Roam,

Thanks for instigating the trip. It was a good hike and I'm glad I got out for part of it and met some good people.

I definitely need to get back out there and do the whole loop.

Totally a boggy march. Without the pirahnas. Too cold for pirahna's or pyjamas.

well, unless they were really warm pyjamas, like maybe down pyjamas. They could have pictures of piranhnas on them.... maybe...., wouldn't want any mud flowing up into them though.... that'd just be messy.

One should never get mud in their down pirahna pyjamas. Too messy and cold for boggy marsh wear.

You know I'm now googling for pirahna pyjamas, right? buncha loons...

I bet pirahna would eat loons.

They would. Happily.

There is a lack of pirahna pyjamas on the internet. Slackers.

The Fish Commission would probably frown on Pirahna stocking, trout are easier to farm.
It would make for an interesting first day of fishing season.

Tuesday was an awesome day for a walk in the woods, great warm weather, sunshine, good trail, and the best of company. I was glad I took the time to greet the last of the group. The trip reports and your pictures just reafirm why I chose to live here, it can be taken for granted in the dead of winter. But as the thaw arrives, so does the trail. It will always be there. Come back soon.

'cause I know Roam don't have no camera, so he musta bought 'em somewhere.

Way to butcher the English language Eddie!

Well, cat's outta the bag now. More drinking, less hiking. That was us in one.

Come see us Eddie, we'll show you how it was done. ;)

Ya know WfL, the way around the dump in Antrim on MST would be a great snowshoe trail, and also lacks an assigned overseer, in case you want a reason to get out in winter...

kiOeh, I have no problem volunteering time for trail maintenance. Given my choice of bypassing the "Antrim Landfill" ( brought to us by the green thinkers at Waste Management HA! )I will stay on the West Rim Trail. I have been to downtown Antrim, coincidentally this is the 35th anniversary of Deliverance. Pardon my humor if I refer to that section of trail as the "Squeal Like A Pig" route.

A few folks have told me the Duncan Tavern is a good place to eat but I haven't mustered the temerity to try it. The MST route around Antrim truly goes around Antrim, you can't see the landfill or the town from it. (Actually, that's not quite true as you can see both from the "haunted vista," but you can't see either when you're on the same side of 287.)

Is that new section of the MST officially open yet?

It is officially open south/west of 287, then again from Hills Creek State Park to Cowanesque Lake. The section from 287 north/east to Arnot Road is partially cleared so it should be ready after the June 19-24 KTA Trail Crew - especially if more volunteers come out to camp right by WfL at Twin Streams Campground in Morris. Very soon after a day-hiking weekend is scheduled on some of this far north stuff, check out http://www.fleszar.org/topoftioga07.htm

There are reasons the Duncan Tavern is not in the tourist brochures. I highly suggest you never go alone, and always drink the bottled beer. From the bottle. Look me up this summer and I will buy a round.
I just came back down Slide Hollow from the MST, another awesome day for a hike.
