HMM..you know I guess I was raised differently, I have had to attend meetings where very controversial speakers were present. I listened attentivly, and respectfully (granted I am sure if the tables were turned it would be much different). But then I find I am RESPONSIBLE for showing respect to a guest even if they are a blithering twit. Now during the question and answer period is where I ask probing hard questions. This is where you respectfully make your displeasure known. The problem is most college kids today are so full of information they only have to regurgitate without comprehension they cannot logically debate the real problem. Their teacher have taught them to EMOTE on command....” 9:39:03 AM 1/02/07 ““boarders = borders. A weak joke attempt.” These are the dangers of spell check. LOL!” 9:40:15 AM 1/02/07 ““The Minuteman going to a University and being shocked by such a response is like the Klan going to Howard University and being shocked. Do we really believe groups like these go to Universities expecting a completely civil discourse? Or are they hoping, maybe even pushing, for a confrontation?” It is not about the content of the speech Bear. A group on campus asked this group to come and speak and they should be allowed to do so without this type of thing going on. Just because someone is saying something we don't like it does not justify ill behavior. If you would like to discuss the validity of the Minuteman Project there is another thread for that.” 9:42:35 AM 1/02/07 “I agree, Nigal. But Campuses have never been open to all speech. Campuses have always been hotbeds of........er.........hotheads. LOL! I think it's more of a publicity stunt then anything else when certain groups choose these venues. I mean, Jesus Christ, they're frikken kids after all! This idea that they act like civilized, mature, calm, intelligent adults is assinine. How the frik did that myth get out? C'mon people. Take the first step with me: Hi. My name is Bearmagnet. I was in College. I was an idiot. I grew up. Did everyone fergit what it was like?” 9:58:41 AM 1/02/07 “I think it's more of a publicity stunt then anything else when certain groups choose these venues. It is absolutely silly to even classify this group with groups such as the KKK that would or should illicit such a response. They are very crystal clear on what they stand for; the enforcement of this country's immigration laws. That does not make them racists. I mean, Jesus Christ, they're frikken kids after all! This idea that they act like civilized, mature, calm, intelligent adults is assinine. How the frik did that myth get out? What the... Age has nothing to do with it. Children are not even allowed to act this way. It is inappropriate behavior irregardless of the age. And from college aged kids? They are ADULTS. Age and or stupidity is no excuse for bad (and illegal) behavior. It's about respect and responsibility dude.” 10:11:47 AM 1/02/07 “Will the new USNA extend to Panama?” 10:32:27 AM 1/02/07 “I'll agree to disagree with you on what college kids are. And I'm not making excuses. But I'll bet 90% of college students come from home, from being completely supervised, having little or no experience in the "real" world. You then throw them all together and expect them to act like adults in the "real world"? They aren't respectful. And mostly irresponsible. IMHO, it's not an excuse but just the way things are. College is a huge learning experience with a big growth curve.” 10:53:02 AM 1/02/07 “They aren't respectful. And mostly irresponsible. IMHO, it's not an excuse but just the way things are. College is a huge learning experience with a big growth curve. Yup, "I'm surrounded by a$$holes" (Lord Helmet). I work at a university.........young people are mostly not ready for prime time. Keep spinnin' the story guys. Its a bore. The Minutemen are a buncha armed rednecks.” 11:03:29 AM 1/02/07 “OK, so let's go with this line of thinking. So how about the kids that leave home and DON'T go to college and don't act like ass holes? And how about the kids who leave home, go to college and DON'T act like ass holes? The little ass holes are clearly in the minority. If they want to protest, hey, great. Have at it! But when they start disallowing others to present their views, no matter what the view is, then that's wrong and they should be ashamed as well as punished. On a funny side note; I saw tow of the 'organizers' of the protest on Hannity and Combs and Hannity kept asking them why they wouldn't let the Minuteman speak? This chick says, "We did. They spoke for 45 minutes."...before they stormed the stage that is. Hannity kept cutting her off to get straight answers and she starts on this tirade about how he won't let her speak. Gee. How ironic.” 11:05:17 AM 1/02/07 “They may be in a minority. But groups of any type tend to find each other, no? It only takes a few, unfortunately. I wish someone could pound into their heads how shameful this type of behavior is. Hopefully they will grow up some day.” 11:09:47 AM 1/02/07 “I wish someone could pound into their heads how shameful this type of behavior is. My thinking is when they show up at home with their bags and a slip of paper saying, "Your son or daughter has been kicked out of school." they get it pounded into their heads. But again, had their parents been a bit better at raising them they wouldn't have been little ass holes in the first place. OK, that was just a troll. LOL!” 11:13:05 AM 1/02/07 “I think it would be fun to make them take a class in Freedom of Speech. Have the most Liberal Professor on Campus teach it by berating the sheet out of them. Tape it and play it in the Student Union for a week or so.” 11:17:25 AM 1/02/07 “It looks like a case of push coming to shove. As far as people doing a "better job of raising kids"..... Raise some kids.......take your best shot at it. Human beings are not blank bodies, they are born with personalities of all kinds and then there is the environment(home and neighborhood) in which they grow up. Bearmagnet, I expect to hear soon that you are having kids and going to give it a go.” 12:25:46 PM 1/02/07 “You're all talking about Fox News free speech. As a guest with another view from Foxes', you're microphone gain is cut back so Hannity or O'Reilly can just keep talking over you.” 12:44:13 PM 1/02/07 “As far as people doing a "better job of raising kids"..... Raise some kids.......take your best shot at it. But again, had their parents been a bit better at raising them they wouldn't have been little ass holes in the first place. OK, that was just a troll. LOL!” Context context context. I was joking. :P” 12:57:14 PM 1/02/07 “But again, had their parents been a bit better at raising them they wouldn't have been little ass holes in the first place. You can usually spot the a$$holes by Kindergarten or First Grade. They didn't learn to share because they never will. They are born evil, I tell ya!!” 1:00:06 PM 1/02/07 “Naw they can change. I was a little ass hole back then too. Some say I just became a big one but I question that theory.” 1:02:26 PM 1/02/07 “Using vigilante tactics to oppose someone whom you condemn as a vigalante crosses the line from ironic to hypocritical. Universities should be a place where all kinds of ideas can be discussed intelligently. There are lots of other ways to challenge a speaker whose actions or ideas you are hostile towards. 1) Hold signs at the speech? 2) Ask tough questions at the Q & A. 3) Hold and publicize an event to express a contrary view. 4) Picket and hand out fliers outside the event. 5) Write Op-eds for the local paper. 6) Challenge the speaker to a debate, or organize one yourself. If all those avenues are closed to you, then go ahead and storm the stage or whatever. last edited: 1/02/07 1:38:34 PM” 1:37:23 PM 1/02/07 “I pine for the days when college kids just burned ROTC offices.” 1:45:56 PM 1/02/07 “"I agree, Nigal. But Campuses have never been open to all speech. Campuses have always been hotbeds of........er.........hotheads. LOL!" My college is in the process of developing a "Freedom of Speech" zone on campus. This new policy, once approved (which it will) will give all students the freedom to express any opinion they wish in a public forum, in ten minute blocks of time. In the past, only groups of 6 or more students could apply to be recognized as an "organization". Once this requirement was fulfilled, they could pull permits for campus space (ranging from auditoriums to outdoor areas) in which to hold meetings, inform other students of their cause, protest, etc. Any person, or group, that did not follow this procedure could be punished. This was in response to a group of Pali students who protested the recent action between the Israelis and the Hezzies. The group had fulfilled more than enough of the criteria to qualify as an organization, but the college didn't grant them status for what ever reason (which was never made clear to the students, or the public). Wayne is in the heart of Detroit. This new change to policy should be interesting.” 1:53:15 PM 1/02/07 “Vile, I have a young friend who is in his second year at a Major university (noted for liberal attitudes). He has one professor who went way out of his way to declare "free speech zone" in the class. Every kid could say what they want....here is the kicker, as LONG AS THE PROFESSOR AGREED. So my young friend began factually and logically debating the half truths and out and out lies of the professor and his CHOSEN few. Want to guess what the ADULT professor did in response? Bear it is not the KIDS their age or what not, it is the environment where disregard for other people is supported and encouraged by the liberal ivy covered academics. I went through it in Graduate School I had one professor in "Urban Problems" who pushed his brand of thinking. For one week we watched "Do the Right Thing" by Spike Lee. He gave his views on the various problems; how the young males felt about the Yuppies moving into THEIR HOOD, about the causes that led to the burning of the sole white resturant (Italian). Then on Friday we had our chance to ask questions. When the questioning came around to me I was quite brief,"Throughout this class we have been taught to look at BOTH sides of the issue. To understand all points of view. Doctor, I wonder what you would be saying if this had been a film about say a White Italian Neighborhood. And they were having the same bigoted view of the first upwardly mobile Black family moving in...or if in their moment of "expressing their anger" they had burned the only resturant, a black Fried Chicken hut?" THE CLASS WENT DEAD QUIET. The professor looked up and said, "Interesting, next question." (he totally dodged the real hard question by using his position as a Professor). Oh yeah...he does not show that movie anymore. Apparently he feels it is not as good as he once thought it was. But that is the problem with the Liberal Mindset, its like the spoiled little kid who wants to change the rules of TAG or touch football each time he has the ball. If the Professor from that school went to say a business meeting to BEG MONEY. And the people started screaming at him, throwing stuff at him, you can BET he would (with media support and the American Criminal Leadership Union) file a lawsuit. This is the duplicity and outright hypocrisy that epitomizes the Liberal side of the aisle.” 2:00:33 PM 1/02/07 “What's up XLax, aren't you gonna sing your little song?” 2:32:01 PM 1/02/07 “My college is in the process of developing a "Freedom of Speech" zone on campus. This new policy, once approved (which it will) will give all students the freedom to express any opinion they wish in a public forum, in ten minute blocks of time. That is just awesome! Is this Wayne County Community?” 3:36:09 PM 1/02/07 “"That is just awesome! Is this Wayne County Community?" No, Wayne State University. Go Warriors! ;)” 3:40:26 PM 1/02/07 “Oh sorry. heehee! I was so impressed I just sent the president of the university an e mail. Dear President Reid, I am contacting you because one of your students has told me that your university is adopting a policy where you will have a 'freedom of speech zone' where students can freely express themselves as individuals on campus. I felt compelled to write to you to express my thanks for your school's promotion of free speech on campus. Free speech is one of our most important rights and I feel that any time someone is able to freely express themselves we as Americans should do all we can to support that. Respectfully and with Thanks, Craig Turner” 4:01:34 PM 1/02/07 “Man , you dudes really know alot about freedumb.” 5:38:19 PM 1/02/07 “Bearmagnet, I expect to hear soon that you are having kids and going to give it a go.” MarkO 1:25:46 PM 1/02/07 What are you trying to say?” 7:05:17 PM 1/02/07 “Is Bearmag preggers again?” 7:06:08 PM 1/02/07 “What are you trying to say?” bearmagnet 8:05:17 PM 1/02/07 Why...........of course you will show the world how NOT to raise a$$holes!” 7:15:00 PM 1/02/07 “Why...........of course you will show the world how NOT to raise a$$holes!” mARKo 8:15:00 PM 1/02/07 only if the Wife has the final say.” 8:23:59 PM 1/02/07 “Thanks, nigal. I like the idea; but I'm not sure how it's going to turn out.” 8:25:55 PM 1/02/07 “"only if the Wife has the final say.” bearmagnet About a$$holes? Vermont, Maryland and Hawaii, the last states not tracking the names of HIV-positive people, are quickly moving toward adopting names-based surveillance. Washington, D.C. and eight other states, including Montana, Washington and Oregon, began collecting the names of HIV patients last year. Massachusetts switched in January. http://www.greatfallstribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070402/NEWS01/70402003” 8:56:31 PM 4/03/07 “Too bad they can't simply use their patient number and Dr. or something. last edited: 4/03/07 9:07:00 PM” 9:04:30 PM 4/03/07 “Wow did this thread get buried quickly! Civil liberties are too often trambled in the name of "public health". And often, it's not doing the public any good. Should I put my neck out there and suggest this originated as a CDC idea?” 7:33:33 PM 4/04/07 “bearmagnet, good point - like HPV vaccinations.” 8:04:20 PM 4/04/07 “Gotta agree with bear, public safety is too often used to 'defend" government growth. The problem comes in that the government can only REACT to things. Don't know how many of you are aware of the Ryan White Act. But it provides protection for emergency responders who come in contact with an AIDS or HIV patient. A few weeks ago I had to advise a young firefighter/EMT to file. He had gone on a particularly greusome wreck. Patient conscious and bleeding like a stuck pig and drunker than snot. In the 30 minutes they extricated him he never ONCE mentioned it. Even when questioned about any illnesses he might have (for treatment purposes). He told us about a bad back, and some stomach problems. But the "I have HIV" never came out. He had a legitimate exposure while treating the patient. He is 22, has a wife and a small child. Now I know that HIV is not near as easily transferred as Hep B but try telling his wife and kids this.” 7:11:05 AM 4/05/07 “Gotta agree with bear, public safety is too often used to 'defend" government growth. The problem comes in that the government can only REACT to things. hear, HEAR! first step should be to remove all FIRE regulations. they dont help safety and only cost businesses MONEY. who cares if a few kids BURN up? they probably wont be WHITE kids anyway. i wonder how your employer would REACT to you posting from work approximately 8 hours each DAY?” 9:18:10 AM 4/05/07 “There is that buzzing again....may I repeat what I have been saying all along. "The more we ask for the Government to DO for us, the more we turn control of our lives over to "well intentioned" government employees.” 9:23:21 AM 4/05/07 “This persecution of Gypsies is now the shame of Europe At the heart of Europe, police have begun fingerprinting children on the basis of their race - with barely a murmur of protest from European governments. Last week, Silvio Berlusconi's new rightwing Italian administration announced plans to carry out a national registration of all the country's estimated 150,000 Gypsies - Roma and Sinti people - whether Italian-born or migrants. Interior minister and leading light of the xenophobic Northern League, Roberto Maroni, insisted that taking fingerprints of all Roma, including children, was needed to "prevent begging" and, if necessary, remove the children from their parents. The ethnic fingerprinting drive is part of a broader crackdown on Italy's three-and-a-half million migrants, most of them legal, carried out in an atmosphere of increasingly hysterical rhetoric about crime and security. But the reviled Roma, some of whose families have been in Italy since the middle ages, are taking the brunt of it. The aim is to close 700 Roma squatter camps and force their inhabitants out of the cities or the country. In the same week as Maroni was defending his racial registration plans in parliament, Italy's highest appeal court ruled that it was acceptable to discriminate against Roma on the grounds that "all Gypsies were thieves", rather than because of their "Gypsy nature". ********************************************* This is what happens when people desire a European style government like Obama will bring...” 4:47:10 AM 7/13/08 “This is pretty frightening stuff. First, Silvio Berlusconi is right winger - sort of an Italian Rupert Murdoch. You did read the line about "Silvio Berlusconi's new rightwing Italian administration" in your cut and paste. Second, which political party in the US do you think is most sympathetic to limiting privacy rights in the name of security, law and order?” 7:48:01 AM 7/15/08 “Italy's highest appeal court ruled that it was acceptable to discriminate against Roma on the grounds that "all Gypsies were thieves" I doubt you'll find too many Europeans that would disagree with that, regardless of their stance on the fingerprinting issue.” 9:20:49 AM 7/15/08 “Both parties at each end of the extreme are more than capable Ped.
