That's never really been my thing. But I'm not surprised you'd jump to the wrong conclusion, it must be habit by now, champ. I can't believe you'd think I'm thin-skinned and bigoted!! It breaks my heart, really! I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight. I'd really be bothered by it if it was anyone but you saying it, but since it's like most of your opinions and not based on any evidence, I'll probably survive. Maybe. Listen tiger, you really need to learn to enjoy life and let go of some of that angst, even when you're dealt a bad hand. Life's too short for you to get upset when someone throws a good natured jab at you. Honestly, if I knew you got so tore up about North vs. South jokes, I wouldn't have said anything about you and Stovie. Or maybe its the thought of getting in a cage with Stovie that scare you, I'm not sure. I just hope I don't get a similar response from Stove. Anyway, I gues it's back to hibernation for you, you cute little fuzzy bear!!” 9:35:12 PM 12/12/06 “Now why would I respond in anger to your joke? I luv most everyone. ;-)” 9:51:20 PM 12/12/06 “I didn't think you would, but then I didn't think JO was so easily distressed by harmless banter either. It's the second time I've been wrong in my life. The first time was when I once thought I had made a mistake...” 9:55:40 PM 12/12/06 “Notice how ped and gojo both have the exceptional ability to disagree without being disagreeable! I've had the opportunity to meet both in person and it was a pleasure. Fuego doesn't have to be fistacuffs.” 5:24:12 AM 12/13/06 “Yes, it does or it's merely faux feugo:)” 6:42:38 AM 12/13/06 “A number of years ago I went to a speech on the War of Northern Aggression (LOL)...or as we call it down here...The Late Unpleasantness. The professor was ...as he said, "An American of African Ancestry" he requested to be called AN AMERICAN. Anyhoo...he began talking about how the rise of industrialization would have destroyed slavery in 10 or 20 years and he then noted one thing. Even including the carpet baggers and some of the other wierd things our war was notable in that there was not wholesale slaughter of the losing side. He pointed to other revolutions (and that is what it was since a Civil War is two groups fighting for control of ONE country) and identified how in France/Russia/etc etc....there were mass slaughters” 7:47:35 AM 12/13/06 “It's just a simple fact of nature. Southerners are nicer than us Yankees. To me there is very little difference between pinning the ignorant red neck tag on a southern as it is to call a black person a ni**er. last edited: 12/13/06 8:25:03 AM” 8:23:59 AM 12/13/06 “Nigal I keep saying the term Redneck is just as applicable in some backwoods NY areas as deep south Georgia. Just as I feel the n***er title can apply to white as well as black.” 8:27:51 AM 12/13/06 “I try and keep n**er out of my lexicon. If there are white ones and black ones ass hole works better. :) Especially because I have black family members I love very much.” 8:32:56 AM 12/13/06 “There you go.....there are some words that need to disappear from usage.” 8:40:48 AM 12/13/06 “I don't think southerners, as a rule, are "nicer" than us Yankees, but they do tend to be a little more "syrupy" I agree with Nigal about rednecks, 1110%. Upon moving home after 10 years in the south, I was surprised to find many of my childhood friends sitting in a bar on a Saturday (nothing new there), wearing their Dale Earnhardt jackets, watching NASCAR and chewing tobacco. They are also much more conservative politically and religiously than I remembered. All we're missing is the weather and the grits.” 8:43:38 AM 12/13/06 “XL,tell the rappers.” 8:44:32 AM 12/13/06 “LMAO!! Nimblefoot wants to spank Robert E. Lee...that is a classic.” 8:48:34 AM 12/13/06 “I agree Nimble....but we also have to realize that the Phantom of Racisim will probably never disappear. There are too many people with their lives, their futures and their very existence tied up in keeping it alive. (THE REV (gotta make those child support payments), AL Sharpton et. al.)” 8:51:47 AM 12/13/06 “Agreed, racism isn't something that whites only do. The only problem I have with being Irish is constantly having to dummy myself down to the rest of you, lol.” 9:22:15 AM 12/13/06 “I do a good job, too, don't I? BTW, Lyra, when's your birthday? What's good enough for old Bob is good enough for TT's reigning Princess, lol.” 9:23:19 AM 12/13/06 “Well I appreciate the thought, no doubt! ;-D You bastards already missed it this year though, it was Nov 8th. But that's ok, because I've decided not to get any older!” 9:28:17 AM 12/13/06 “You've done well on the behavior front, lol. Come to think of it, my birthday gets missed every year too (March 3rd). Maybe we should start mutual birthday threads and ridicule everyone who posts. last edited: 12/13/06 9:30:53 AM” 9:29:14 AM 12/13/06 “So far as you know! ;-D” 9:30:46 AM 12/13/06 “I meant your behavior isn't getting any more mature;-P” 9:32:00 AM 12/13/06 “Haha, thanks a lot! Good idea...” 9:37:53 AM 12/13/06 “Nimble...so Irish...you ever read Ethnic America by Dr. Thomas Sowell.........? Great book, talks about how more Irish died transshipping to America than African immigrants. It is brutal what the Irish went through for the first hundred or so years.” 9:44:48 AM 12/13/06 “Yeah. Blacks in America had/have it easy...” 10:06:50 AM 12/13/06 “Great book, talks about how more Irish died transshipping to America than African immigrants. XL400236 10:44:48 AM 12/13/06 There were African Immigrants coming over while the Irish were? Can I have some dates and numbers please?” 11:33:53 AM 12/13/06 “NAACP: Ni**ers Ain't All Colored People. And all "rednecks" ain't all Southerners. I left HALF A FREAKIN' BEERon the bar of a Northern Arizona (had to travel there from S. Utah, heh!) tavern after overhearing two very shorthaired white boys strategizing about the nights upcoming... ummm, "activities". Seems they were aiming to break a few el bonos and/or make a few others redder men than they already were. Mega rednecks, imo. Being alone and 2000 miles from home, I got scarcer than the blue-bellies of The Great Skidaddle. Saw a van plastered with haniously racist bumper stickers in Galesburg, IL. Like nothing I've ever seen... anywhere. Did see quite a sight in a late-night convenience store in Wakulla, FL - heart of the Redneck Riviera. A white guy in longish cutoffs and combat boots was also wearing a tee shirt with the words "The KKK is gettin bigger Ain't you glad you're not a Ni**er" on the back. There were several Black folks in the store, too! I managed to contain my laughter until I got out to the truck... Southern Hospitality is a hoax. The Good People of the States of Idaho, Wyoming, and Montanna are as friendly as anywhere I've been. Philadelphia and New York City, too. I was moved to check out a book before leaving the library last night: Don't Know Much About The Civil War I forget the author. I got about 1/3 the way through today. The war is just getting underway - so far it's been focusing on the events (almost all tied to the slavery issue) that led up to the hostilities.” 4:09:37 PM 12/13/06 “From the mouths of babes: "I said I would go but they laughed at me and said they wanted men not boys for the job; that it would all be over soon; that those fellows down South were big bluffers and would rather talk than fight. I'm not so sure about that." From the diary of an Indiana farm boy, age 16 That quote was from the book Don't Know Much About The Civil War by Kenneth C. Davis. Davis also quoted much of Frederic Douglass. One was pertaining to Douglass' not knowing who his father was. That reminded me of a conversation I once had with Cynthia McKen... er, Walker, a quite comely and intelligent Home Ec. teacher I was dating at the time. She also happened to be Black. At that time, I was neck deep in Googling everything I could think of in an effort to search out my Southern American heritage - I was actually toying with the idea of becoming a member of The Sons of Confederate Veterans. The motive there was to help me promote the notion of what the Confederate battle flag meant to me, and millions like me. Our state flag was under attack because it contained the Cross of St. Andrew in addition to the seal of the Great State of Georgia. The battle flag represents racism to many, I understand that - emphatically(?). But it represents something to me that to this day I cannot put wholly into words. BTW, in 1989, in my Speech 108 course at Gordon College, the subject of my required "persuasion" speech was about removing the cross from our flag. Not because it portrayed a negative image, but because it had been kidnapped by certain groups as a symbol of hate and modern-day rebellion. This type of disrespect and dessecration was, and still is, totally unacceptable to me. I did not want the image of my homeland confused with the idealogies of such groups as the Hells Angels or the white supremecist movement. See the film A Clockwork Orange. So Cynth and I are driving along, and I'm babbling along. I mentioned that I had traced back to the ancestor that first purchased the property from whence I was borne. He was also a veteran of the War (he had moved to Colquitt County just two years before the seccession of Georgia). I then turned and asked about her ancestory - what was I thinking? She knew only of her grandmother, who was still at home in their native Lynchburg, Virginia. Though her grandmother was born in the 20th century, and her mother well after emancipation, they likely had been born at home, and were likely illiterate to the point of not maintaining any sort of record. Or something theretofore not considered by my cosmopolitan self. I felt small. I had nauseated myself. I had been terribly insensitive. It was a humbling experience of the highest order. No, fellas, I'm far from being a "negro's negro". I can't imagine what it must be like. Nor can you. Nor can you imagine what I feel for the histroy of my beloved homeland, it's symbols, or the honor of my Grandpa Zion.” 11:39:19 AM 12/14/06 “OKay but that was what....150 years ago? I understand the pain, see I had a good friend whose parents and he became guests of the German Government in 1942. His house, history, life, etc disappeard in a hole in Eastern Germany. The problem I have with the present day champions is that they totally ignore that slaves have existed for time immemorial. And while they #&%!$ about repayment ( I personally think 7 TRILLION TAXPAYER DOLLARS is enough) they refuse to admit Slavery still exists in Africa. They refuse to admit that it was the very Blacks in Africa who SOLD their brothers and sisters into slavery. To me it is a time of pain for all.” 1:02:15 PM 12/14/06 “Okay, Bobby, you had your little birfday; now get back in the damn casket.” 3:39:03 PM 12/14/06 “It is by the wretched hand of fate so ill that I would not be born among the fair and soft of our kind so to be laid upon Robert E. Lee his faithful and submissive mistress." ~U.S. Grant” 12:27:08 AM 12/17/06 “Ah! Fearless on many a day for us They stood in front of the fray for us And held the foeman at bay for us And tears shall fall Fore'er o'er all Who fell while wearing the gray for us Whoo! The beedee's in just a couple weeks! I'll post a few of the events scheduled so's yous guys can plan accordingly.” 8:56:26 PM 1/02/07 “ ”8:57:58 PM 1/02/07 “Holy guacamole - the events are too numerous to even begin. Google yer own info, ya lazy bastages! lol!” 9:32:51 PM 1/02/07 “There goes markO with his unfunny homophobia, yet again.” 9:50:35 PM 1/02/07 “whatchu talkin' bout, Willis?” 9:51:20 PM 1/02/07 “Well its unfunny when it is anyone but a libbie...then it would be homophobia. WHEN YOU HAVE LIBBIES LIBBIE LIBBIES AT THE TABLE TABLE TABLE THEY WILL CHANGE THE RULES TO SUIT THEM AS THEY ARE ABLE ABLE ABLE” 7:10:23 AM 1/03/07 “There goes markO with his unfunny homophobia, yet again.” StoveStomper 10:50:35 PM 1/02/07 Did Stovey just "out" himself? ![]() And there goes XL Ky Duh with his Glee Club routine. Do you dance as well as sing, XL Ky Duh? last edited: 1/03/07 7:36:18 AM” 7:34:32 AM 1/03/07 “Did Stovey just "out" himself? - markO Big talk for someone that lives as the 'wife' part of a couple, LOL!” 7:46:56 AM 1/03/07 “MarkO at Home....except he still has his arms. http://www.looptard.com/weird_videos_blind_date_gone_wrong_beer_commercial.html” 8:40:36 AM 1/03/07 “What's in your bed, Stovey?” 8:47:18 AM 1/03/07 XL, Givin' It Hell “ ”8:49:46 AM 1/03/07 “O Marky Mark - Get yer own thread, k? Dude - Stovey may be no Freud, but it dosen't take a psychoanalyst to see through your facade. You're obviously queer as a football bat - not that there's anything wrong with that. I have a gay nephew whom I love with all my heart. What I hate about him is that he can out-fish me under the boat with a piece of bacon and a safety pin - lol! It's the 21st century - c'mon out! BTW, hansome - what's your sign ;)” 9:33:19 AM 1/03/07 “LOL>..I'm a tripod? Who you been talking to?” 9:47:52 AM 1/03/07 “I walked the dogs before coming into the library. Across the street is Stonewall Confederate Cemetery. There are over 500 Confederates buried there, and one brave soul who fell for the Union while serving in the 85th Illinois Infantry Regiment. The other Union dead were likely exhumed and returned north. There are also three historical markers describing various war highlights from here, Griffin, GA. One marker tells that Kentucky's Orphan Brigade - named thus because of Kentuckys neutrality - was outfitted with captured Union horses, and became a mounted infantry unit - all six regiments. You can't sling a cat here on the Georgia Piedmont without it landing on hallowed ground. Atroscities beyond the imagination occured in every county around here. This is where I was raised an American. This is my home. The events are my past - indeed, my heritage. I will probably attend festivities at Confederate Memorial Park in Albany on the 13th. Come with! God Bless America!” 3:18:24 PM 1/03/07 “The events are my past - indeed, my heritage. - gojo blah - this is little removed from brainless "tribalism", as is found in many fractious areas of the 3rd world. Nice intellectual company you keep.” 3:42:22 PM 1/03/07 “lol!” 3:43:31 PM 1/03/07 “Thanks for keeping us posted on the numerous events to commemorate the War Against Southern Treason.” 3:56:03 PM 1/03/07 “You're welcome. See you in Albany?” 3:57:48 PM 1/03/07 “I wonder how many of those 500 dead guys were actually members of the aristocracy/feudal lords they fought to protect. Those aristocrats were a decadent lot many of whom kept their fortunes even after their "cause" was lost.” 5:20:44 PM 1/03/07 “Hey, Gojo is a nice guy, Mark! Seriously: I'm impressed, Gojo. You've taken flak several times recently over your stand on the Traitorous South, and you've kept your cool, whereas most historical revisionists tend to fly into emotional fits when confronted with reality. So, you pass my ineffectual pu$$y test. Be proud.” 6:55:15 PM 1/03/07 “OmarK - To put your curriosity at ease, I'd speculate that there were a half-dozen uppitys sprinkled about judging by the several obelisk tombstones. I reckon the important thing is that they're all dead, and you can sleep safe'n'snug tonight. BOO! :)” 7:42:15 PM 1/03/07
