Spring trip to Halsey, NE
I am looking at making a Spring trip to the Nebraska Natl Forest in Halsey, NE.

I already have the topo maps ready, and GPS coordinates set. The place is perfect for back country camping/hiking, and there are windmills strategically placed throughout the area that provide a source of drinking water.

If anyone is interested, email me at jamesbkeyes@yahoo.com

Regards,

James

I'm interested in a NE hike but you'll have to establish more of a presence here before people will just jump into a trip with you.

Maybe start by looking at the trips page and joining us. Filling out your profile may help you avoid the pitfalls of a first time poster.

Hike on!

Hey, your name is familiar to me. I'm sure we've exchanged messages on Nebraska hikes. I've done Soldier Creek Wilderness.

I might be interested in this. If you know **when** the trip is, set up a page for it on the TRIPS page. Or ask for input on when to hold it.

And one more than, don't let the windmills fool ya. Just cuz there are windmills listed on maps doesn't mean they are operating. I learned that lesson the hard, heat-stressed way on my Soldier Creek hike.

Hi Liz.
I think a poster by the nome de plume of Day Hiker hooked me up with you over a year ago. He and I were conversing on another forum about hiking/backpacking.

Since that time, I've become really involved in our local paddling org. (Missouri River Valley Paddlers) and have led two wilderness excursions via kayak.

Last August, we did Voyageurs National Park.

What I'm looking at is the Nebraska Natl Forest. A 3-4 day hike/camp in that area. A co-worker has been there several times and he says the windmills are pretty much operational. I will ask him about them again.

I've got the map and the windmills are scattered all over the place so I'm sure you'll find water if you keep looking.

I look to be tied up the weekend of March 23-25 at a big geocaching event at Mark Twain Lake, about a half an hour west of Hannibal, MO. So if you could steer clear of that weekend? lol...

Oh sheeyat, I just realized I am supposed to be part of a local event March 24. LOL... hmmm... gotta look at what to do now.

Let me see when I have events to cover and when I'm free. Yeah, I know, IT'S ALL ABOUT ***ME!!!*** LOL...
Seriously when all is said and done, set it for when you need to. :-0

Wounded knee.
I got my share of pix too. Some are *almost* identical to yours. There should be some sorta national pic bank from where we could select pictures. Prolly save a tree or two...

Wow. A tree or two added to NNF would double it's population in, like, two years!
lol!

I gotta get a map of that forest. I was looking online with both topos and aerial shots. Looks interesting.

There's also a post on hiking in the Sandhills over on the "other side:"
