I did a search and did not find a thread on this, so....

Has anyone had "turkeyducken"?? It is a chicken, cooked inside a duck that is cooked inside a turkey!!! They are all deboned before cooking. Here is one link I found:
http://www.thesalmons.org/lynn/turducken.html

I heard there is a "deep fried" version. That is what I am interested in. Anyone know about this?

(This link for "Easterduckin" was a riot: http://asteroid.divnull.com/?p=70)

turducken...OK.

Haven't heard much about it out here in CA. My friend just got back from South Carolina and mentioned it.

My father in law mentioned seeing a show about these when I was visiting for Thanksgiving. That night, Leno mentioned it on his show. That's the first and last I'd ever heard of them.

Heck, if it can be fried, I'm sure it's been done here in the south.

What do you need to know? I've deep fried several of them. Most also come stuffed with a rice dressing also. The is a shop down the block from my lab that sells them.

Have you deep fried a turkey, pretty much the same procedure.

We bake/ roast ours, not deep fry it. They're really tasty. The sausage and rice stuffing in the middle is some darned good and spicy stuff. HPM was explaining one to a coworker, who thought the entire concept was too dang funny.

Sigh
I love you guys down there.

The thought just struck - I mean all you guys are worried about heart disease, obesity, the French paradox, but I think you guys ought to look into how any of you manage to live beyond thirty-five.

i didn't notice the "deep fry" bit... i wouldn't do that and in fact have never heard of that being done. a turducken isn't the same without the stuffing. it's a baked thing. you can order them on the 'net but they are damn expensive. they are not hard to make but you have to be good at deboning to get a good looking product. they make it look easy if you go to a butcher shop. the "king " of these things is "herbert's speciality meants" in louisiana, but expect to drop $100+ to get one to your door in time for christmas. i can't imagine you could find one here up north in this culinary wasteland of boiled meat and potatoes.

Heck Jimmy San, a local grocery here carries Hebert's turduckens in the frozen meats dept. I think I'll pick one up real soon, before they sell out. They're soooo good. Hmm. Guess I shouldn't have skipped breakfast, I'm hungry.

The turduckin is pretty dang tasty. I've only had it with the dressing in between each as well as inside the chicken. There is also a version with "the other white meat" pork. It's a duck inside a chicken inside a turkey inside a small hog, I don't know what's called but it is good!

i have never seen one in a store here in the midwest. if anyone finds one please let me know, i would love to pick one up. i guess i could be creative and try and make one (i have tried before). it's a LOT of work if you have never done it before and can be quite messy. also, the birds aren't what makes it what it is... it's the stuffing that is a major contributor. watching someone debone a turkey/chicken/duck that can do it in a few minutes makes it all seem so simple but it takes practice and patience. hey, with enough string you can make any mess into a composite meat log, right?

I really do want to try this dish. I would think roasted is the way to go. Not disparaging deep fried turkey, cause I love that, too.

i don't see how you could deep fry it with the stuffing in it... it's really a key part of the dish. it's just just "nested composite meat". it's the whole package...

beacuse of the stuffing, one of these will feed a lot of people, BTW. an 18 lb turducken is a LOT of food... a lot more than an 18 lb turkey i would think.

thanks to dayhiker i just did that...

i bought the one at cajungrocier.com... i have no way of knowing if it will be good or not -but- they sell those awesome popeyes side dishes, esp the oyster/cornbread stuffing... such memories! i started doing the drooling thing when i saw the photo. anyway, the turducken + 4 side dishes came to like 115 bucks shipped which is not that bad considering what i would spend normally on christmas dinner. toss in a few bottles of homemade wine and a hot pot of coffee and i am good to go. i'll make bread pudding for dessert. i am sure the stuff they make is good but mine is better.
