Hey is the "big trip" the JMT, or GC? See this guy tries to play it off, but I saw him SPRINT straight up a hill and disappear in Red River Gorge last month, full pack and all.

“doesn't claritin or allegra or whatever work? those antihistamines (claritin specificall) changed my life when they came out... "perfect cure" sort of things.

I would be up for this late in March. I hear the KT is very muddy but i have never been on it if you can believe that. I get mixed reviews from people and have just chosen to hike elsewhere.

“For most folks These work great. My allergies are a bit of an exception though. I have to have shots, a nasal spray, eye drops, and pills. It sucks. The good news is that I'm now up to a maintenance level with my shots so I only have to get two shots once a month, instead of every week.

I want to push myself CG. I found myself feeling pretty confident after the "orgy in the Deam" hike, so I thought it was time to start challenging myself. I covered 13 miles last Sat morning.”

still the topic can now be raised in conversation without fear of an immediate "3-D" retaliatory strike (dismemberment, death and divorce in that order) so this is a huge step forward.

“I'm interested iff'n it's after tax season. I'll keep my eyes open for dates to be posted. I need to start signing up for trips. I'm going to have a lot of vacation to burn this year.”

“I never really developed this into anything last winter but I still want to do it and if anyone wants to come along they are welcome. Instead of spring it will have to be this fall though. I would do it sooner but I don't want to have to contend with the heat and lack of water. (dangerous combination)

Tenatively it will be October 14 - 16. That is a Sunday thru Tues though so you may need to check your schedules.

As stated in the original post, this will not be a casual trip, and is not for the inexperienced. I would like to do the whole Knobstone trail (43.5 miles) in 3 days or less. Water will have to be cached, and I intend to go as fast and light as possible, so caching food may be an option too.
If anyone is still interested let me know, or if you have any good advice please feel free to speak up.”

“I want to do the Knobstone, but I will not have the time to do it this year.

Next spring may be an option, however that may not work either. Unfortunatly, hiking is taking a back seat for me for the next year or so.”

“The Trap Hills trip is 10/19 thru 10/22. There are probably some people going on that trip that would also do the Knobstone if they were not so close together.”

I need a job with normal days. I have already burn all my vacation time taking trips on weekends, now I will only be able to hike on my days off. Sun - Tues.

I'll solo it if I have to but it would be much easier if I could get one person to go with me for a shuttle if nothing else. If there were some interest in this in September I would consider that too but I would still have to go on a Sun - Tues.”

“Ah yes, Stomper - that's who you were. We didn't have a long time to meet and greet considering I got to the trailhead at 1am and slept in my car through the monsoon.

Yea, the last year has been hectic with new job and newish son. I'm looking forward to hiking.”

“I know it would be tough oldog. I'm gonna start improving my physical condition this summer. I'm not too bad now but could be a lot stronger. Come Sept/Oct I will be ready. I heard the trail was built by a sadist with roots going all the way back to the spanish inquisition... LOL!”

“I think the KT is the most difficult trail I have been on in the midwest. Some of the ups and downs are crazy steep. You are especially asking for punishment if you hike it in the heat and humidity of summer.”

“Ya I'm not doing it in hot weather. If it looks like it is going to be too warm on the dates listed I may bump it back a couple weeks for cooler weather.”
