indiana spring butt kicker interestView Messages“I am thinking of putting together a serious fast and light 3 dayer on the Knobstone trail this spring sometime. I'm thinking 10 - 15 miles/day for 3 days. I have not hiked the KT, and would love to get it off my list of unhiked indiana trails. So how bout it? This will not be a trip for the newbie, or the faint of heart, or the casual sight seer. This will be long days on the toughest Indiana has to offer. (Which isn't saying much for you westerners, but it's as good as we got.) Crash, Jimmysan, Gforce, Olddog, and anyone else that thinks they can (almost)keep up with these guys, please give me some feed back. Also anyone who has done this, I would like to hear opinions, advice and ideas. Thanks.” 1:35:48 PM 12/20/06 “that would be fun. if im not working those days, i'm in” 1:39:52 PM 12/20/06 “I'm having a hard time connecting 'Indiana' and 'butt kicker.'” 1:47:16 PM 12/20/06 “i think its the 45 miles in 3 days that is the buttkicker. the knobstone is perty steep” 1:53:44 PM 12/20/06 “I'm pretty sure the KT is the most challenging in indiana. Maybe I'm wrong. I knew someone would ask WTH I was talking about.” 1:58:06 PM 12/20/06 “45 miles in 3 days is a butt kicker? Maybe you guys need to explain a thing or two to ENS :-)” 2:04:57 PM 12/20/06 “ok, It'll kick my butt. I never said I could through hike the freakin PCT in 4 days.” 2:20:03 PM 12/20/06 “I'd be interested in this kind of hike.” 2:25:39 PM 12/20/06 “we're sorry, nog. what if we do 45 in one day? can we call it a buttkicker with you and ens's blessing, then?” 2:26:33 PM 12/20/06 “dhutch might bail if we get more than 2 people :-P last edited: 12/20/06 2:36:39 PM” 2:32:03 PM 12/20/06 “I know you are joking cb. but just to put your mind to rest. I did not bail due to the size of last week's group. Need I paint you a picture? In addition to my original reasons I think it was preordained. My son called from Kansas State on Saturday to tell me he was coming home for Christmas earlier than expected. I wouldn't have been home if I'd hiked. Sometimes when things don't feel right you just have to trust your gut. I'm glad I did. I've decided that if I'm going to make a serious drive/flight to hike. I want to do some serious miles, serious terrain or see something spectacular. Ideally both. Everybody hikes for different reasons. And 45 miles in one day sounds like fun - "no sleep til trailhead"” 2:40:06 PM 12/20/06 hey mean “I've hiked and did trail work on a small section (10-12 miles around the Delany camp) of the KT , and might be able to do this” 2:41:05 PM 12/20/06 “just blowin smoke up your skirt, hutchy :-) you and i will do the no sleep til trailhead option. dont forget the powergel iv around mile 30” 2:51:15 PM 12/20/06 “No problem crash lol, e-caps and no-doze, baby” 2:53:00 PM 12/20/06 “A 45 mile dayhike! Now you guys are talking my language. Where do I sign up?” 2:58:49 PM 12/20/06 “Your plan sounds really good to me.” 3:00:10 PM 12/20/06 “e-caps are those electrolyte tabs, right?” 3:05:35 PM 12/20/06 3:07:23 PM 12/20/06 “freakin nuts!” 3:14:41 PM 12/20/06 “olddog, dhutch, crash Awesome! This would be cool, but I better do some serious conditioning, or your fearless trip planner may be the one to die. LOL! I'll get to work. Ya, about 45 miles in 3 days sounds cool. Thats 15 per day. This will be my biggest mileage yet. Keep push'in Keep push'in Keep push'in on!” 3:30:19 PM 12/20/06 “When you talkin; month? and no, I am not humpin your pack!!!! last edited: 12/20/06 3:38:20 PM” 3:36:18 PM 12/20/06 “to much for my blood...although stranger things have happened, i just joined the Y...maybe i'll actually be in shape enough by then LOL” 3:39:56 PM 12/20/06 “I'm think'in March-ish. That is too bad.” 4:12:34 PM 12/20/06 “deam lake trailhead to spurgeon hollow trailhead is 43 1/2 miles” 4:17:10 PM 12/20/06 “please dont plan it the weekend of the buttcave batkicker. i would like to go to both” 4:20:08 PM 12/20/06 “Cool. Crash is all over this one! Thanks dude. Anyone know anything about this section of the trail? Are we talking designated sites only, or do you just have to get off the trail? What about water? To keep this pace I ideally wouldn't carry more than one liter at any time.” 4:22:22 PM 12/20/06 “camp anywhere water is scarce” 4:30:39 PM 12/20/06 “I thought I read that somewhere, but wasn't sure.
