I suggest starting with an airline and branching out from there. :P

Try all the diff online places and see what they come up with.

I've used Orbitz a few times.
I've also heard others are better.

It depends on timing, partly. If you are leaving from Chicago and going to Tokyo, I'd think 800 or better would be a great price.

To search for fares, a great website is www.kayak.com - they run data from many different websites at once. If you register, you can search flexible dates

Top 20 deal - sells out quickly!
American Airlines has just announced a great sale for roundtrip flights to Shanghai from accross the United States.
We noticed that fares from east coast departure cities are especially good -- as you can fly for the same rates you'd typically pay from the west coast! Philadelphia, New York and Washington D.C. departures are just $688 roundtrip!

To book a flight click here. Book by October 27.

I always used NWA to fly direct between Chicago or Minneapolis and Tokyo. This was during the '80s. Normally, I flew Business Class.

PS: Do you want my little, black book. It's in Japanese, but the telephone numbers are universal? This is my 5-star directory!

If you fly direct, keey a camera ready. You might get some beautiful shots of Alaska.

Most flights left early in the morning and arrived during late afternoon. It is a long flight, about 11-hours.

Crash, If you find a fare under 4 digits TAKE IT! I buy tix for crew from the west coast to NRT all the time and they are always $1200-$2000 USD full fare e-tickets. Check with JAL.

Hey, that's how my father got a free trip to Japan. Of course he only got to stay there for an hour before catching his connecting flight to Saigon.

NRT is Narita a/p. Thats Tokyo well sort of. NRT is the one that was built on a man made island that is now sinking. Genius. Where are you going. Misawa, Kadena, Yokoda, Narita, Iwakuni, Osaka - It ain't like it's the size of Rhode Island.

http://www.travelzoo.com/

I have flown one-way from $400 (military rate (They would buy blocks of tickets.)) to $2,100. Usual cost was $1,400 to 1,800 RT.
these fares included to/from Orlando. I always stopped in Chicago to visit my brother. Frequently, I took an overnight there.

On my last return from Japan I took an overnight in Hawaii. Arrived early on one morning and departed late the next afternoon. All these trips were expense account travel, the only way to fly. Whether by air or by sea, I was in Japan 15-times. Each time I was on an expense account and paid with bonuses. The stays averaged two weeks each. The longest was 20 days. It was like paid vacations. We deserved it, since we did plenty of work while at sea.

If you can get a flight out of a Chicago airport for cheaper than that of Indy, you can park your car at my house and I will drop you off.

Where's he going? Naturally, he's going to "A little Bit of Denmark," located in China Town in Yokohama. There, he will remember to ask for the GOOD Aquavit, and drink a toast to all his friends here on TT.

It's a small place, but be careful. The bartender has a baseball bat. And most of the many, small, cute chicks that visit there have their boyfriends with them. Have fun.

I believe it was 13 hours from Chicago and 11 hours returning.

Get someone to wrap you in a box and go FedEX. That should be your cheapest option.

Moral of the story? Don't go cheap.

I think the straigh shots into NRT from Minneapolis (NWA) or Chicago (United) tend to be the best. I have had a few disasters with international travel and too many connections.

You may also check JAL. They have fewer numbers of flights, but they do fly into O'Hare.

Well Crash if they put you if a Fed-ex box and ship you to Japan, you may have something in common with Tom Hanks...
