I've lived here on Keel Mountain in North Alabama for 18 years. I have ten acres to enjoy and have a 20 mile view off my front porch. Well, the only thing lacking for this high tech family has been high speed internet. It's not available via DSL or cable in my area and there are no plans to bring it my way any time soon.

My family said the only thing they wanted for Christmas was "high speed internet"...so I went shopping.

I found a deal with another satellite TV company and switched companies. They offered "Wild Blue" satellite internet service at a discounted rate if I switched to their satellite TV service. Well...now we're wired. I had the DirectTV and Wild Blue installed today and we love it. The satellite internet service performs at DSL speeds. I would definitely recommend it to those in rural areas where they cannot get any other kind of high speed internet. My combined bill for TV and internet is comparable to what the city folks are paying. So, from here on out my TT posts will be coming from outer space!

Merry Christmas !!

MDSHiker / I live in a rural area of Virginia and have been looking into for an alternative faster internet. Thanks for the info.........although I priced Direct Wat a couple years ago, it was very expensive for the initial system and the monthly cost was around $59.00 bucks a month. I will look into this again. Thanks

I had broad band installed through the phone company in my new digs. It's very rural where I live, with the nearest neighbor being about 1 mile away. Broadband is just as fast as DSL through the cable company. No idea as to cost because it's all wrapped with the phone and t.v., and I've yet to get the first bill. No installation charge. So far I'm okay with it.

I am with Fridge. I priced DirectWay a year ago and it was cost prohibitive. I have DirectTV so I guess I will check into this again.

I have dial up in Townsend which means on a good day, I have about 28K in speed.

It's just painful sometimes.

From what I was told, "Wild Blue" opened 500 ports for customers in TN, AL, and GA. This is because they are at capacity, but have just launched another satellite that will begin service in April 2007. They sold the 500 ports in 8 days. I got lucky and called at just the right time and got it ordered.

It's sweeettt...we like it.

[Little does anyone realize, but MDS sent that post in about 8 years ago - it's a REALLY distant satellite....]
