“The only vice president and president not elected to either office. Dead at 93. last edited: 12/26/06 10:56:02 PM” 10:54:38 PM 12/26/06 “Maize and Blue Forever...” 11:37:45 PM 12/26/06 “But, as one AP reporter said, as President, he was what the nation needed, to allow the nation to heal. An interim President.” 11:47:31 PM 12/26/06 “just heard it on the news as i opened this site. wow, what a shock!” 12:03:29 AM 12/27/06 “I saw the Flag at Half Mast....Thought it was because James Brown had passed...” 6:22:27 AM 12/27/06 “Well, I guess we know what will dominate the news channels for the next week. I wonder if you were to ask the average American a few days ago to name the living presidents if Ford's name would have been mentioned by even half. I doubt it. He will be remembered for the pardon of Tricky Dick and that's about it. RIP” 6:57:31 AM 12/27/06 “When will this ever begin to fuego? j/k I remember him (and Betty) well. Anyone recall the "WIN" buttons? Whip Inflation Now. I always thought of both of them as decent human beings who were of the people. There was no sense of either an arrogant or condescending bone in either body.” 7:10:54 AM 12/27/06 “What's all this talk about the presidency? Everybody knows that Gerald Ford will be most remembered for the two national championships and Most Valuable Player award he won as a center at the University of Michigan. The Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions tried to sign him after college, but he decided to go to Yale Law School instead. Deciding not to play for the Detroit Lions = the best decision of anyone's life.” 7:12:33 AM 12/27/06 “My aunt was an assistant for the athletic director at U of M and she was in charge of his big ceremony at the university about 10 years ago. He gave her a gift for the job she did and she said she had never met a more humble man. ”7:38:34 AM 12/27/06 “Not about Ford, but I remember standing downtown Columbus, Ohio in 1973 about 10 feet from Spiro Agnew as he gave an open air speech. I was there visiting a friend who was at the Columbia School of Broadcasting. SS agents were all over the rooftops and on the ground and I can't remember what he said. Funny what headlines help you remember....... last edited: 12/27/06 7:52:08 AM” 7:51:16 AM 12/27/06 “I agree with the decent people comment. What a thankless job he had, in the worst possible time. He had good humor too, took a lot of razzing for his golf game. :-D” 7:53:20 AM 12/27/06 “A really good man, who remembers the Chevy Chase Impressions of him on SNL???? LOL...my favorite was the 1976 election when they were both making so many Gaffes that one Editorialist labled the election, "The Election Nobody wants."” 7:57:33 AM 12/27/06 “ ”8:38:01 AM 12/27/06 “Hey yo, Tree!! What city might that be?” 8:44:04 AM 12/27/06 “Dead at 93. “just heard it on the news as i opened this site. wow, what a shock!”Pamela a shock? A SHOCK!?!?! what the hell?!?! the dude was 93 dammit years old what? was he supposed to come over to your house today for milk and cookies? personally, im shocked as hell he was still alive. i thought he was dead” 8:45:21 AM 12/27/06 “Nuevo ORK....they had spent themselves in to bankruptcy...and wanted MOMMA to bail them out...he did the right thing.” 8:51:21 AM 12/27/06 “Yeah, that's what I thought. "Momma" was already broke from blowin' all that money on a useless war.” 9:04:18 AM 12/27/06 “you guys make watching the news no fun! I learn all I need from you nuts! LOL two woman tried to kill him...” 9:09:48 AM 12/27/06 “LOL..Squeeky...and then there was a woman in "Dallas"...okay lets get the FULL story on that. This woman (a real loon) in like Bohunk Texas calls the Sheriff on day, she was trying to get to Ford to talk about his ANTI Organized Crime program. She was paranoid as hell and thought her husband was a member of the mob. Her comment as best I remember it was, "Sheriff, my Husband/Ex husband, is in the mob, and I need to talk to President Ford. If I can't talk to President Ford I am just going to kill the b@stard.(meaning as they found out later...her husband)." LOL the Sheriff was such a putz, in court he admitted that he had waited till the next morning to call the Secret Service. His explaination, "I didn't think it was that important." LOL the woman go a looney bin assignment...now how do I know? I knew people involved in her defense (court appointed by the way).” 9:15:03 AM 12/27/06 “LOL” 9:16:18 AM 12/27/06 “They had a few comments from the cop in SF who grabbed the gun after Sara Jane Moore tried to shoot him - a guy who worked for my dad at one time; I think I must have met him at one time or another. I had forgotten that the SF shooting was only a couple weeks after Squeaky tried to shoot him in Sacto....” 10:47:00 AM 12/27/06 “I thought it was so sad...but what a life he had!” 11:08:20 AM 12/27/06 “Squeaky and Sara Jane have air tight alibis.” 1:57:41 PM 12/27/06 “Mr. President, RIP. ... CB, I had the same thought, but I don't think Pamela meant "shock" in that sense.” 6:59:21 PM 12/27/06 “He was the last major party presidential candidate I voted for until the elections in the late 90's. I thought he would have made a great president...didn't agree with the Nixon pardon but I enjoyed his middle road common sense policy strategy. He did help foster the G7 (now G8)summits. He saw the world economy long before anyone else.” 7:24:26 PM 12/27/06 “WASHINGTON -- Officials were preparing tentative plans for President Gerald Ford’s body to lie in state this weekend and expected a funeral service after New Year’s at National Cathedral capping days of mourning in the capital. U.S. Capitol Police officers said they were told to prepare for Ford’s body to come to the Capitol Rotunda on Saturday, and congressional officials who have been briefed on plans said a public viewing would begin after an arrival ceremony. The cathedral service was expected Tuesday. http://news.bostonherald.com/politics/view.bg?articleid=174092” 7:25:14 PM 12/27/06 “I was walking into the grocery store today and the headline of the Detroit News read "Ford Dies" in big block letters. So, all the sports fans in town must have jumped with joy because they thought Lions' owner William Clay Ford had died. And all the auto workers in town must have had a heart attack because they thought the lines were going to shut down, which they might anyway. Rather cryptic of the News today.” 7:40:07 PM 12/27/06 “Wouldn't it be great to see more conservatives like Ford in today's Washington? On another note, in an interview that Gerald Ford gave in 2004, and suppressed until now, he says that going to war in Iraq was a mistake.” 5:53:31 PM 12/28/06 “Woo Hoo! We all get another day off! In all seriousness. Nice guy but a wuss. Should've taken control and run with it. Not be spineless because he wasn't elected. But he just died so everyone must wax poetic. Even The Post.” 5:58:34 PM 12/28/06 “ ”8:07:51 PM 12/28/06 1:57:20 PM 12/29/06 “Well the guy who followed him WAS elected and he epitomized SPINELESS, INCOMPETENT, and the ability to set a low target and continue to undershoot it.” 2:09:36 PM 12/29/06 “XL, you are correct, sir! I liked Ford, and my family supported him back in 76. Carter was such a dud. Still is. As for the Nixon pardon, Dick was a $hit, but I believe the pardon was the correct thing to do. Enough was enough and Ford put common sense ahead of blind ambition. Rest in peace Jerry.” 7:21:03 PM 12/29/06 “Wow! The music at this Ford funeral is just amazing. I love the old hymns.” 10:52:38 AM 1/02/07
