Sipsey 07 - Parker and Quillen

“Well, it's that time again. I'm planning on March 2-4. Friday, hike in, setup camp, explore as much of Quillen as possible. Sat explore Parker, Sun, hike out.

We'll camp at the same place as the 04 and 06 trip which is the bottom reaches of Quillen.”

“I'm down as a soft maybe. If the leg heals and I can get conditioned, then I will be there.”

“Heck, hike in the mile and hangout at camp if you don't have your stamina up. This is a low mileage trip, but it's pretty tiring since it's all off trail.”

“I am sure I can hike the mile, but it depends on how much strength I have in the ankle.”

“Count me in if open to ladies. I'm sure I can find at least another one so I'm not the only one.”

“I doubt you would be the only female on this trip.”

“I'm in.”

“I'll plan on it also, and try to bring along some females for ya butane. Why do they all want to hike with me I dunno, but that's allright by me!”

“Well, I guess if I am able to hike, I could bring Nurse Goodbody.

Hell the one and only backpacking trip she has ever been on, she has to get someone back home with a broken leg.

She's been a hell of a lot of help though. There were some days, I would have been up #&%!$ creek without a paddle if she hadn't come over to help.”

“I'm down for a maybe. I've signed up for more trips than I know I'll make. I'm working Thursday night so I'll be 4-5 PM on Friday if I make it.”

“Don't worry about being the only female. I did this trip last year with a bunch of TT'rs and I ended up as the only female. I had a great time and felt very comfortable with these guys.”

“I don't mind being the only one, but someones wife might not like it. Most of y'all don't know me yet, but Super Troll does. I'm just there for the hike. I don't need any mad or jealous females!!

“I don't think it'll be an issue at all. Divinity has been the lone female on numerous trips.”

“PS, just beware that this is an off trail trip. We'll be on game type trails and following creeks.”

“dayhiker, thanks, I didn't know that, but it's okay with me. I used to do some hiking in Sipsey with a group called Natures Wanderers. We done a lot of bushwacking stuff. I will be prepared.”

“the trailhead is actually at a bend in the road before reaching Thompson - parking for maybe 6 cars then bushwhack into Quillen area for camp - check some of the old Quillen trips for more detail.”

“HOI is correct. There is overflow parking another 150 yards before the main TH. I have a map that shows all of this. I'll find it and link it. It's time for me to post more info on the main page anyway.

“I tore out a taillight backing into a spot...blowdowns sticking out can puncture or scratch if you're not careful!”

“Count me in. Chilli if you get here in the daylight hours maybe you will spare the other leg. Ha Ha... This hike to camp is worse than the last trip we took. I don't recommend anyone coming in after dark........”

“I totally agree. No one should hike this in the dark. There are 3 waterfalls on the route in that are ripe to fall off of.”

“Well, hopefully, I will be able to hike by then. I will probably camp out at the TH and hike in on Sat morn.”

“Hiking the top of the ridge is easyer than the bottom. Night hikers might take that route.”

“A friend and I just did a trip to Quillan a few weeks back: down the Arnold Motorway, then dayhiked down Quillan past the cascades. The Sipsey is the best, and Quillan is the best of the best.

Question: on a past TT thread, one of your group talked about hiking into that same area (where the Arnold Motorway hits Quillan) from Kinlock Road. Have any of ya'll done this? Apparently it traverses some private land, but I'm not sure how much of a problem this is. If it hasn't been a problem, I'd like to use that trail to get into upper Hubbard Creek.”

“I've never done that. On the Quillen trip in 04 we used Arnold Motorway to complete a loop back to camp.

As remote as that private land would have to be, I'd be suprised if it were an issue, but some folks are awful ticky about their land.

I've thought it'd be fun in May or so to start at Kinlock falls and just go downstream until you get bored and come back. It seems like everytime I'm at that falls the water just looks so inviting, but it's usually January or February.”

“OK, count me in. I've been reading your posts for a while and would like to meet you. I love the Sipsey and have been in Parker Canyon but have never made it to Quillen Creek. Just had leg surgery in December and am anxious to get back in the woods and on (or off) the trails. Looking forward to seeing you guys.”

“I'm headed to Sipsey in a bit. I'm taking my 6 year old and 5 year old and meeting a family of 4 for a hike to Turkey Foot. Should be fun. We may try for Caney Creek Falls or Kinlock bluff shelter while we're there.”

Might be damp. A lot of crawling under and over downed trees await y'all.
Not so much if y'all take the ridge route.
