Plans for the new yearView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 17 of 17 messages posted.
What I want to experience “Instead of making a bunch of resolutions that I will have a hard time following, I decided to set some goals for the new year, of places I want to go and things I want to experience. My list: This year, good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I will go back to the Big Bend. I am thinking late October/Early November to coincide with the International Chili Championship. I want to spend Thanksgiving in the Ozarks. One of the best trips I had was there on Thanksgiving '03. I am going back. At some point, I am going back to Eagle Rock Vista. One of my favorite campsites of all time. Watching a thunderstorm blow in UNDER the campsite was awesome. I am going to make either Assateague or Cumberland Island for a camping trip this year. I am tired of putting it off. And finally, this summer, I am buying a canoe and spending the weekends on the water. Full gear, dutch ovens, whole nine yards. I am convinced stikmon has the right idea and I am going to do this. If I can accomplish everything on this list, I know 2007 will be a much better year than 2006 was. Life sometimes sucks. But staying in a rut is just not an option with me. I don't just want to "see" things....bygod, I am going to "experience" them. last edited: 12/30/06 10:27:07 AM” 10:25:24 AM 12/30/06 “Sounds like a great list. Some of those are on my list too. I won't get all of this in 07, but I want to hike in the Tetons, Glacier, and Utah. I want to raft the Gaulley. I want to go to Maine again. Dang, I need to shut up, mine is growing. I do like the idea of water trips. Now that the kids are getting a bit bigger the canoe thing sounds good. I seem to enjoy trips on water better than that elevation. I imagine I'd like them on the water as well. Happy New Year James.” 12:34:41 PM 12/30/06 “I'll be desk bound for the first 3 1/2 months of the year (tax season). Assuming I make it through without going crazy, I'm hitting Mammoth Cave in April and Trail Days in May. Maybe I'll go to Red River Gorge in May too. It's beautiful there in May - all the spring flowers are in bloom. I'd like to go to the Ozarks some time and I want to try to head out west before the year is over.” 12:42:18 PM 12/30/06 “Lets get on the water this summer !! Those plans sound great...make it happen!!” 12:49:45 PM 12/30/06 “My New Year's resolution is to get 2006 behind me. Then, we'll see.” 1:19:00 PM 12/30/06 “What up Stomper?! Big plans for you this year huh? We gotta put together a hike down in your neighborhood this summer!!! Good luck, and best wishes for the new year!” 1:46:17 PM 12/30/06 “Yes! We'll go to Garden of the Gods sometime and maybe Land Between the Lakes (LBL) in the summer. The second or third weekend in June may be good for LBL. Warm enough to swim but not oppressively hot. Honestly, I'm kind of depressed about tax season. I'm not looking forward to the long hours. It's hard enough to find time for family and excercise as it is without another 15-20 hours of work a week thrown in. But, I guess that's a topic for another thread. Thanks for the well wishes Meanie. Same to you and more! Happy New Year TT'ers! Make it a good one. Don't put off your plans and dreams. Now is as good a time as any. Get out there and do it! last edited: 12/30/06 2:26:34 PM” 2:25:28 PM 12/30/06 3:15:55 PM 12/30/06 “My list is very simple. January 31, take possession of my new house in Huntersville, NC and after 9 months of limbo, finally live in one house in one state with my wife and daughter. After that, everything else is gravy. So I'm thinking a little backpacking is in order at some point.” 4:28:45 PM 12/30/06 “I feel ya Stomper. This will be my first tax season as an accountant. I bet it is going to suck. Chili dude, Stikmon does have it right. Paddling is the way to go in the summer. You can bring along practically anything you want. My first canoe camping trip was on the Buffalo with Stikmon. After we gorged on steak, jumbalaya, and beer, he brought out his mom's brownies. I think Stikmon, Prowler, and I ate 10 pounds of brownies before slipping into a coma that night. Good times. I'd like to go back to the Buffalo this year. When's the best time for good flow? I think it was mid May when I was there.” 4:53:57 PM 12/30/06 “Chili...keep striving for the things you want to do. Be exstatic if you get to do them all but be pleased if you only do a few. This year I won't have any vacation time but I want to try to do some weekend things. I am DEFINETLY getting out in the woods more...!!! Look for more waterfalls and search for unseen wildflowers. (no specific location) I will find a yellow lady slipper this year by golly!!! I too have wanted to hit the water for years and my big desire is to learn to kyak but a canoe will work well. I just want to live well and love much. Not an original statment but a good goal to have.” 5:18:57 PM 12/30/06 “4 weeks of vacation this year baby! (sorry to rub it in folks but I've worked hard for it) Let's see... It's looking good so far with trips planned to KY, PA and CO. I have orienteering matches and adventure races on the calendar as well. That gets me through May. After that I'm keeping options open until the schedules start to unfold. Yeeehaw!” 5:57:44 PM 12/30/06 “Get a job. Yep, that's pretty much it. A job sure would be nice!” 10:54:01 PM 12/30/06 “gc and jmt in '07 ... that will eat up my vac time” 11:25:50 PM 12/30/06 “right now I'm only planning one trip for '07 . . . the AT beginning in April. I've waited a long time for this one and, hopefully, nothing will happen between now and April to prevent me from doing so.” 9:58:23 AM 12/31/06 “I've done plenty of kayaking and canoeing and will likely do more this year, but I prefer not being restricted to any vessel (27 years between the Navy and the Coast Guard may have something to do with it). I feel much freer walking a trail with my pack. Looking forward to doing both with my new dog, Hillary.” 10:25:44 AM 12/31/06 “oh, my bad. i dug up an old thread before i saw this one.” 1:01:33 PM 12/31/06
