Eagle watching
Yeah, there will be people there for the event but it looks good and I need a social life :-) Eagle Watch Weekend at Starved Rock State Park, IL. Who wants to dayhike?

Hey, you guys. Here's a group that sometimes goes there, the Illinois Sierra Club chapters, as well as having a lot of other stuff going on:

Crikey, they've got a trip scheduled the same day you want to go!

I've met some of the group members a couple times when they have a spring backpacking trip at Yellow River State Forest. I always *think* I should join up with them on the eagle watching weekend Feb. 17-18 at the Ion Inn (adjacent to YRSF), but haven't yet. That's probably 1 hour and 15 minutes away from me.

The Sierra Club expects 50 people on their trip at the same location and the same day. Ever think of switching the date to Sunday, or adding an overnight camping at the park? I can bring enough cut and seasoned firewood for a good campfire.

Can't do.

But was in Prairie du sac, WI last weekend for their Eagle watching event. Saw more than a dozen bald eagles. One put on a nice show for us.

Hope you have splended sightings, too.

If anyone is camping out Saturday night, I will join them and bring a lot of wrist sized dried firewood.

I'd easily camp. Could also bring some firewood. I'll check out the campground info.

OK - so no interest in camping. A couple of us will be dayhiking Sunday. Meet in visitor's center parking lot at 9.

Look for an olive Explorer covered in Yakima :-)

We started hiking at 5 degrees and 20 mile per hour winds. By the end of the hike it warmed up to 10 degrees. We saw three bald eagles, and hiked down the trail to all the frozen waterfalls. In the early afternoon, we drove to Duffy's Tavern in Utica for a couple of Guinesses and sandwiches.
