Houghing up Hough

“Cool. How was the walk out?”

“I just got home fifteen minutes ago.

I stayed at The Motel Bobo last night.

The trip home was rather eventful last night with me having to stop twice on the highway to blow lunch.

We had dinner at The Timberwolf Cafe in Schroon Lake.
It was a feeding frenzy with lots of greasy bar food, deep-fried poppers and hot chicken wings and onion rings, which overwhelmed my guts and I chucked it all on the shoulder of I-87.
I just about never eat that kind of stuff and probably won't eat it again.
The side of Bobo's Big Beautiful Black Truck got "decorated" when I heaved out the window.

Well, that's my story.
The backpacking part of the trip was much nicer!”

“Sounds like this is going to be good.”

“Icy, and snowy. It's too bad you left, because the rain switched over to snow by noon time. Sunday morning we awoke to a steady snowfall that didn't switch over to rain until about the Lake George area on the drive home.

It looks like winter might have finally arrived in the Adirondacks. The High Peaks region is supposed to get 5-11 inches of snow by tomorrow morning in the valleys and temperatures are supposed to reach as low as -16F by Wednesday night.”

“Lots of snow and more coming round here.

Winter has finally arrived and I'm going to adjust my bindings for my downhill boots. Feb. 1 is ski trip day at school and I have to practise if I want to kick some student butt on the slopes.

Woohoo!”

“Hey Gremlin, a bunch of guys who were disappointed that we didn't see you.

We didn't hit the trail from Lillian Brook Shelter until 1:00 PM yesterday.
It was a nice morning to just lay about and eat and enjoy watching the snow.
The walk out was a reasonable 5.2 miles in some light intermittent snow.

Pennsy was probably on the trail before we were out of the sacks.
On the way out we saw no evidence of a fire at the Pennsy shelter.
Man, we burned a ton of wood!”

“Dang, I was almost home before you guys even got on the trail. We were back to the cars by 11:30 and were eating lunch at Pitkins Restaurant in Schroon Lake at noon.”

“I'm sorry I didn't hook up with you guys, but I hate winter rain and get spooked every time it happens since I scrapped my Jeep coming back from the Santanonis.

I needn't have worried as the roads were dry and clear.

The hike out was slushy and slippery.

Did Bobo finally bag Hough?

I'm still recuperating from bronchitis and stayed at the shelter Saturday catching up on sleep while those intrepid ground-pounders got it done.

Zac and ENS showed up in the early afternoon Saturday and hung out for quite a while.
Bobo, LT and GreenMonkey got back about 3:00 PM hoping that I had a fire going..........LT did a fine job of getting that going.
We even had a visit from Pennsy.”

“As usual a great trip with great people! I had a blast and was glad to be there to help Bobo get his 46th!
The weather wasn't the best but it was ok, the fresh falling snow on Sunday was nice. Too bad we weren't there for the 6-12 that they are expecting tonight!”

Thank you to all my friends for putting up with me hijacking Adirondack trips these past couple months so I could get the 46ers completed!

This trip was one that I'll remember for a long time and I really appreciate you guys coming out to be together as a crazy band of brothers in the snow covered High Peaks.

Yup, I got a feeling! Climbing together in crazy weather with crazy people in beautiful places fills my soul, oh yeah, oh yeah!”

“I'm truly sorry I missed it Bobo. My deepest congrats to you. I was there in spirit and thought about you guys Saturday and the progress I suspected you were making on the trail. Happy 46th!!!”

“Dude, I want to tell you that you are a good friend and a good person! I know it wasn't your fault that you got sick and hurled all down the side of my truck. Especially after having a nasty case of food poisoning myself a few weeks ago, I can certainly sympathize! The chunks were all over the passenger side of the Big Baboo - stem to stern! I went out with the soapy bucket and hose, but it was abit much so I ran down to the carwash and things are all good now... except the chicken pieces deep down in the windowsill!

Wow! Yellow chicken chunks everywhere! I think the take home message here... You gotta chew your food more thoroughly!!!
