For Mutt, or anyone else, - What's Stratfor predicting for 2007? For the middle east> Far East? Elsewhere?

Trouble from the east-north-east light and variable with increasing rowdiness moving in from the north with things becoming darkest when least expected.

LOL@ stratdewd.

Stratfor ain't been all that accurate (LOL). Hell the only reason Norm was in Southern Command in 1991 was that they never forsaw a major war in the Desert.

I agree XL - (on the LOL, too) - Stratfor/Friedman have had some great hits and some great misses, but they are almost always interesting.

They haven't published their 2007 forecast yet. They did publish a piece affirming their 2006 assessment for Al Qaeda, though.

Heard Friedman on O'Reilly's radio show today.

Interesting discussion, though O'reilly kind of tried to simplify and moralize everything Friedman said.

Most of what I heard was about Putin - and his struggle vs. US interests combined with the US struggle vs. Russian interests. Also, O'Reilly sounded ready to hold a major ticker tape parade for Petraeus. He spoke as if victory in Iraq was assured and an MSM conspiracy was hiding it from us.

It's always fun to see what Wild Bill is selling and how. Sometimes I learn something.hing.

I'm hoping he's right about the surge continuing to play out well - so long as it doesn't lead to triumphalists wanting to setting unrealistic goals.

LONDON (AP) -- The loose-knit hacking movement "Anonymous" claimed Sunday to have stolen thousands of credit card numbers and other personal information belonging to clients of U.S.-based security think tank Stratfor. One hacker said the goal was to pilfer funds from individuals' accounts to give away as Christmas donations, and some victims confirmed unauthorized transactions linked to their credit cards.

Boston (Reuters) - Hackers affiliated with the Anonymous group published hundreds of thousands of email addresses belonging to subscribers of private intelligence analysis firm Strategic Forecasting Inc along with thousands of customer credit card numbers.

The lists, which were published on the Internet late on Thursday, included information on people including former U.S. Vice President Dan Quayle, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former CIA Director Jim Woolsey. They could not be reached for comment.

The lists included information on large numbers of people working for big corporations, the U.S. military and major defense contractors - which attackers could potentially use to target them with virus-tainted emails in an approach known as "spear phishing."

The Antisec faction of Anonymous disclosed last weekend that it had hacked into the firm, which is widely known as Stratfor and is dubbed a "shadow CIA" because it gathers non-classified intelligence on international crises.

The hackers had promised that the release of the stolen data would cause "mayhem." A spokesperson for the group said via Twitter that yet-to-be-published emails from the firm would show "Stratfor is not the 'harmless company' it tries to paint itself as."

Antisec has not disclosed when it will release those emails, but security analysts said they could contain information that could be embarrassing for the U.S. government.

"Those emails are going to be dynamite and may provide a lot of useful information to adversaries of the U.S. government," said Jeffrey Carr, chief executive of Taia Global Inc and author of the book "Inside Cyber Warfare: Mapping the Cyber Underworld."

It is not "widely known" that Stratfor is a "shadow CIA" because that stupid rumor was started by a dipsh*t sensationalist article a decade ago.

Stratfor is NOT another HBGary, and Antisec has mud on its face. It was simply a soft target of opportunity, illuminating anonymous' continuing downward spiral into petty criminality. Their ideological justification of the hack is a complete joke.

Having had Stratfor on my map for a while, I think it is clear that it has some CIA connected sources - some of this may be because the CIA tries to influence their analysis. I'm not sure what it would mean for them to be a "shadow CIA" - but I can't think of a way that it would be accurate.
