“Anyone use Sibelius or know about it? I'm looking at Sibelius 4 and trying to figure out the difference between the student and professional versions (beside the fact that the pro costs 5 times as much). How good are they? last edited: 1/02/07 1:19:26 PM” 1:19:10 PM 1/02/07 “Yo Ped.....if ya don't mind me asking....what are you planning to do with Sibelious? Depending on what your master plan is, there might be something else out there more suitable to your needs....” 1:46:27 PM 1/02/07 “Stratus: It's for my son who wants to compose and publish his compositions. He's been writing his own songs for a while and is performing at colleges and clubs. He's also taking composition and other music related courses in college. He's got a birthday coming up and a couple of people have told him he should get it.” 2:02:36 PM 1/02/07 “Cool beans....no doubt Sibelious is an awesome piece of notation software and if all you want out of your software is to compose and record/edit, then it's probably a safe bet.... You can pick-up a student version of Sibelious for around a $80 or version 4 for about $220.....the student version is great to see if its a piece of software you like and I believe you can upgrade if you really dig it... I would also check out the Cakewalk line of products like Sonar 4........Also, Finale is another notation package worth checking out... I would have him download the demo versions of some of these packages and get a feel for the operating system.....everyone has their own nuances as to how they like these things presented..... BTW....what instrument is he playing...i'm assuming piano..... If you're looking for more in-depth advice...goto musicplayer.com and then goto the Forums section.....the Keyboard corner is where I hung out a bit and there are a few chaps in there that can give more detail on the pros and cons.....Oh..also look-up Craig Anderton's forum page....and email him....he'll write back and he's well known in the realm of DAW's, sequencers, notation software, etc....... last edited: 1/02/07 2:59:09 PM” 2:54:02 PM 1/02/07 “Thanks Stratus. His main performance instruments are piano and electric keyboard, although his only instrument training was in Violin.” 3:24:49 PM 1/02/07
