Believe it or not that even in all my geekness I've never read those books. [hanging head in shame]

I was reading in Reason Magazine about this literary trend called faniction or something. It's amature writers using other peoples characters and worlds to write other stories about them. Xena Warrior Princes has a huge following and there are tons of faniction stories on the net.

They even write sequels to Shakespeare and their is one E-book out there that is a sequel to Phantom of the Oprah that is said to be just as good as the original. Some of these hackers are even getting deals and having their stuff bought by production companies.”

A pretty amazing amount of it is soft core novellas about main characters hooking up in bizarre combinations.

Make that sequel a Star Trek crossover with a Kirk and Spock hook up and you have a typical fanfic production.

They take place in maybe 400 or 500 AD when it's more likely that Arthur actually lived. Merlin kicks ass in the books. I enjoyed them. I got them for Christmas one year, but my boss wound up getting them on books on tape. I took the books back and listened to the tapes.”
