Anyone ever heard of this site before?

Basic description: Go to the site, type in an artist name or song. They play it and play a continuous stream of music from similar bands. This becomes a "station" and you can start a new station by typing in another band name.

Music Genome Project: "...Over the past 6 years, we've carefully listened to the songs of over 10,000 different artists - ranging from popular to obscure - and analyzed the musical qualities of each song one attribute at a time. This work continues each and every day as we endeavor to include all the great new stuff coming out of studios, clubs and garages around the world...."

So far, it does seem to be a great way to hear new bands and old bands I haven't ever heard of. After a trial period it will ask for an email name for registration along with the standard "no spam" promise. i typed one of mine in and was able to continue on without having to go to my account for some type of pass code. Therefore, a bogus email name and password may work if you're the paranoid type. It also asks if you want to pay to have ads blocked but my adblocker is doing a perfect job.

I just started using it and it seems really #&%!$ing cool. The "thumbs up/thumbs down option" is very nice. Thumbs down kills the song and it selects another immediately.

bearmagnet,

I've been using Pandora for about 6 months now. When I first started there were no ads at all. Even with the ads, it's fine because I only look at the page to see who an artist is or to skip a song. They've sent maybe 3 emails over that time, basically just talking about new features and artists they've added. It's very kewl, especially being able to check artists out by clicking on the "Backstage" tab.

Well damn Kleetn! I'm out of the loop. Maybe that's why I can't get an ipod to work on my laptop?

been on Pandora for a month now...
Its great...it plays in the background and I can listen to other things on top of it. The commercials are no problem, since I just minimize it and only pull it up to thumbs up or down. The first artist I put in was Blackmore's Night...the rest has been awsome.
