you all be welcome! it's just land right now, nothing but hillside and woods but we are going to build a home on it in the future. We have been looking for several years in North Georgia, Eastern Tenn, and where we finally bought. We are only like 5 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and 25 minutes south of Cherokee.

5 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway from near Franklin?

You must have a fast helicopter.

Great!
Another fuggin Yankee or Florida retiree is just what WNC needs!

Take extry precaution if'n you hear a local say "Whur you goin city boy?" Keep your britches up.

We're waiting on a land quote for 17 acres in Haywood County right now. Luckily for us, there's still some ppl that don't wanna sell their land to them types of aforementioned folks. So a local hillbilly like me just might be able to afford land still.

LMAO!!! "Nice Tooth", that's funny!

I can't believe its the Cherohala Skyway either - that's just about as far from Franklin as the BRPW.

My thoughts, too. Have they built an extension toward Franklin? If not, youir property must be located a ways east of Franklin, likely east of Cashiers near the Tuckasegee River.

Yeah you guys are all right, bout the BRP. There's also the Cherohala Skyway, which is another pretty mtn parkway, but I thank that's pretty distant from Franklin too, more closer to the TN line. The BRP ends very near the Oconalufte Visitor Center, with the BRP traversing thru the Reservation. Not really 'near' Franklin, bout 25 minute drive from there I reckon'.

ok perhaps 10-15 minute north on 23/74 in Clark
but not much more than that. Our property is already 10 minutes North of Franklin just off of 23 on the Macon/Jackson county lines

Sirpete is probably confusing the Blue Ridge Parkway with Highway 74. They have a name for Hwy 74 also... something like the "Great Smoky Mt. Highway" or something like that.

That's "you'ns" be welcome, yank...er...yeah - yankee! lol!

I loved my latest neighbors, but hardly a day went by that I didn't ride their a$$es about the beautiful woods that their house and the other hundred or so in their new neighborhood displaced. And don't even get me started about the nonstop dog barking...

The bulldozers are running amok here in the South, especially in the cities and our beloved Blue Ridge. Frankly, Pete, I have mixed emotions about your impending move. The influx from the North and South Florida is whelming - which is just shy of overwhelming. heh!

But I know you. You're good people. Don't be led by the preconceptions you may have about Southern Appalachia - lest you fall prey to "confirmation bias". Instead, come here with the expectation of meeting some of the finest people you'll ever know - which you will.

Yo mARKo!!!!
Ciao is but a memory now :(.....

I thank the Mexicans here say "hola". So Hola Amigo, er perhaps Hola Gringo!

Gojo my backwoods friend, I thank you (actually "we") better git good and used to rude, chitty-driving, funny tawkin Yankees and old, slow-driving, nearly dead Flarda retirees. In mosta WNC the locals can no longer afford land. If you don't have land in the family already, or will buy an aged and mostly unwanted house in town, or have an aging grandparents' house to move into, you cain't afford but a small squat of turf to build a house on. It's not yet that bad in the outlying mtn counties, like Franklin, McDowel, and Madison Co.s, but I'm SURE the locals are thrilled to have PA Pete move in next door (rest assured that's a big fat 'not',chuckle).

I was going to make a wise remark but I won't.....I love that Nekkid Ape like a brother.

Since my family is originally from Darlington SC I suspect I might just fit in, regardless of my northern tendencies.

and actually our plan is to move there one day. perhaps 10 years from now, who knows, but we too are in a position where if we wait to buy the land when we are ready to move we won't be able to afford it, so we found a pc we liked now and invnested in our future.

Yayuh marko (tear) I'm back Stateside now ('nuther tear). Phx, AZ to be exact.

LOL agin to you pete! Man I for one am glad you're moving in, I'll git ta hike with you agin. BUT,...your suspections are wrong about fitting in. Your consolation and saving grace is that possibly some of your nabes might also be Yankees!!! One thang's fer sure, DO NOT laff at your local, hillbilly nabes for using the word "britches" like you did me. Now I'm a teetotally humorous-luvin kinda guy (and know that altho some ingurnt, you are very good ppl), so I found it entirely funny. Your new neighbors however, ain't gonna laff. Just a teeny-weeny fyi, from a TT hiking brother to another TT hiking brother.

Hehehe, man I just love the Franklin area, but pete you ain't gonna find too many areas in the Suthun Appalachians with fewer teeth than there, teeheehee! Yaknow, it just dawned on me that that'd be a great tv reality show, PA Pete Moves To Franklin, LMATO!!!

Real quick edit: You're unfortunately prolly right about that gojo.

the nice part of the acrage is that I am already protected on all 4 sides from further developement. It is in a development that was established in 1966 so there isn't a whole lot of new construction going on. On one side there is road, and on the other side of the road is a small pond and common area, the other sides are another road and 2 properties that already have homes on them, both of which can't be seen from our land due to the topography.

But, having said that, If I was to look at the area I live in today I problably wouldn't want to move in. It's nothing like it was 20 years ago.

Yo Ape, I was just kiddin about the locals, my wife an I have been going there for a while and have nothing but nice things to say about the towns folk. We wouldn't have bought there if we weren't interested in people.

looking at the pond there is a small road just to the right of it. My land goes from there up to the right to the other road. Then on that side of the upper road the one house borders the top end of the land and the other house boarders the bottom.
