What are the must have goodies I should ask for the holidays? AC charger? Dock?” 7:59:18 AM 11/13/08 “For you? A pair of headphones that cover your face. But cereally, folks, I'd ask for a replacement of the standard-issue headphones with some Sennheisers. Or get an adapter to play/charge it in your car.” 8:32:29 AM 11/13/08 “get a zune to go with it, when you start getting pissed at the ipod and itunes you'll appreciate it” 9:04:10 AM 11/13/08 a set “of Bose earbuds, the sound is the BEST, also I find that my car system will not handle the highs and lows of most of my music (Moody-Blues thru U2 with a lot of Rolling-Stones) I know ,I need a new car system” 10:20:29 AM 11/13/08 “A pair of good portable speakers or a dock, as you mention for a nice boom box set-up. They make some really nice ones.” 10:25:03 AM 11/13/08 ““get a zune to go with it, when you start getting pissed at the ipod and itunes you'll appreciate it” I had to skip on the Zune I was going to get because they are a bit scarce here because of some recall. The web boards and reviews I read made me nervous too. Plus the 1,000 watt surround sound system I just got has an iPod dock. oldog- Are the Bose worth it? I know Bose sound great but I am picky when it comes to head phones/ear buds. I have a hard time keeping ear buds in my ear. They feel like they're falling out all the time. I know, probably all the shyt between my ears pushing out. LOL! Thanks for all the suggestions guys. last edited: 11/13/08 2:45:52 PM” 2:49:23 PM 11/13/08 “Bose is good, but not worth the premium they charge. Google some earbud reviews, you can find a great pair for half the cost of Bose. You might think about getting a portable speaker/dock station. I don't think they're made anymore, but I got Altec Lansing IM600s - very portable, great sound and offer battery power, plus will charge your player.” 3:11:52 PM 11/13/08 “I was just looking at what's out there. I want $50 of less for ear phones and there were quite a few good looking ones out there. I'm not really needing a dock I think because when I'm in the upstairs I'm on the 'puter and listen through that (I may get a spare aux cord for the surround sound system upstairs too) and downstairs I have the surround sound dock so I'm not sure how much I'd use it.” 3:22:36 PM 11/13/08 “bose are not worth it nigal go with sennheisers or v-moda's they're both quite a bit better than the bose ear buds IMO, the the head PHONES are a whole different story though” 11:02:27 PM 11/13/08 “The sennheisers have the impedance I'm looking for and the price but, phuck, are they ugly.” 3:33:42 AM 11/14/08 “BTW- does anyone know approximately how many CDs you can fit on a 120G hard drive?” 4:21:26 AM 11/14/08 “I had a pair of Sony earbuds that I really liked but the little rubber thingys came off in my pocket and got lost. Is there a specific model of Sennheisers that anyone recommends?” 4:49:13 AM 11/14/08 Nigal “you have to hear the Bose, to believe .Go to there web site ,you can try for thirty days free, I ware a ball cap that I run the wires thru that takes care of the falling out thing I have a pair of Koss over the ear that do not come close to the Bose .As far as the 120G , I don't think you have enough CDs” 4:53:00 AM 11/14/08 “I have struggled to find a good set of headphones to use while running. So far earbuds seem to work best, but I went through a few pair before I found a pair sony makes that don't pop out when your ears get sweaty. Honestly, who would think your ears sweat? Lol! The sound is pretty good. I have the itouch but aso got a shuffle for running. The shuffle is awesome for this... 50 bucks for the 1 GB model that I put like 13 hours of music on. I done hear the same song repeated for many runs and it just clips wherever. I wanted to get a good pair of headphones, esp. Noise canceling ones for all the air travel I do, but they are so expensive. Oldog, grand canyon thang is in october 09. I'll send you an invite but read the trip page carefully because it is a real butt puckering trip.” 5:20:33 AM 11/14/08 “As far as the 120G , I don't think you have enough CDs Well I do have over 500 CDs so I was wondering.” 5:33:30 AM 11/14/08 “I have a 20G ipod and I have 2495 files on it and that consumes 9.86G of space. I counted the titles of the full CDs I have and it was about 165 full CDs and and bunch of individual files that would probably fill another 10-15 CDs. So I'd guess that you can get about 175 CDs per 10G. Doing the math on this WAG, that comes up to 12 X 175 = 2100 CDs Of course your mileage may vary but I think you will have more space than you need unless you start putting movies and video on it.” 5:43:06 AM 11/14/08 “Holy hard drive Batman!” 5:51:44 AM 11/14/08 “The sennheisers have the impedance I'm looking for and the price but, phuck, are they ugly. Well why didn't you say you didn't care about the sound, you just want the headphones to make you look cool? Playskool makes some groovy lookin' ones.” 6:53:10 AM 11/14/08 “yeah it holds a lot until you start ripping lossless which can take up about five times the space a normal 128kb rip does, and if you are really looking for sound quality then that's what you want to do. I currently have around 450 albums on my 80gig varying in bit rate from 192kbps to 1000kbps but most of them are in the 300 range so if you are going to fill it with only music then you could fit about 1350 albums on it, I'm assuming humanmuley rips his cd's @ 128kbps so yeah your mileage is gonna vary” 9:32:24 AM 11/14/08 “Yep, good point Rocky. Depends on what your ears can hear and your gear can reproduce. Most folks are happy with 128K but if you are an audiophile your files will be a lot bigger. I hear no benefit to ripping lossless. Too many years of super loud music have pummeled my ears.” 9:56:32 AM 11/14/08 yogisan “thanks, I got it” 6:25:09 PM 11/14/08 “Well why didn't you say you didn't care about the sound, you just want the headphones to make you look cool? Playskool makes some groovy lookin' ones. I care about quality sound but I also don't want them to be so ugly people are trying to rescue me on the bike path from the lime alien tentacle monster they think is attacking my head, enter my ears and plant it's eggs in my head. ”6:33:41 AM 11/15/08 “I spent the weekend ripping CDs and have 353 CDs so far and the grand total of space used was 15.13G so I think the 120G iPod will be big enough.” 5:00:15 AM 11/18/08 “I'll tell ya what; I'm so glad I went with the iPod rather than the Zune. Zune Marketplace sucks all kinds of ass. A friend went out and bought me a gift card for the Marketplace when I was planning on a Zune. I figured I could still use it and just import to iTunes. Many of the songs are .WMP protected from being converted. So I have to burn a disk and then copy the disk with iTunes.” 10:49:43 PM 12/20/08 “I have the RCA lyra 2gb. It has voice recording, memory stick, aaa battery operation so if I'm on a long hike I don't have to look for a usb port in the woods and it only cost me 50 bucks here in Canada. You can also take music files straight from you computer and move them onto the player just like you would transfering a file from folder to folder, no itunes so where if you go to a different computer to charge with different songs, you don't lose all your songs (at least that's what happened to me with the ipod shuffle). The bad thing is it takes a while to find a song you want and the shuffle option sucks, because it just mixes the songs up, but when you shut off and turn back on it has the same order of mix as before as well as starting right from the beginning of the list.” 5:31:14 AM 12/21/08 “Wow! I found a bunch of podcasts for backpacking on iTunes today. I'm still downloading so I haven't seen any of them.” 8:51:47 AM 12/28/08 “I had a Creative Zen..and uuuum lost it :-( But I just got a Sumsung S3. I REALLY like it. However the accesories are riciculously expensive.” 9:23:13 AM 12/28/08 “What's This? Nigal, send me an e-mail. I now have an MP3 in my phone. Whats the story?” 8:18:15 PM 12/28/08 “The pocasts are like home made short tv shows made and submitted by people. Some are low quality and crappy (one podcast showed how to split fire wood and hang your clothes to dry, LOL!) and some are top quality. If your phone supports Quicktime you may be able to play them on your phone. You have to download the iTunes program and use it to search and download.” 4:39:22 AM 12/29/08 “I'm thinking about taking a step into 21st century and finally getting an mp3 player. I'm mainly looking for something to use in the car that I can copy my current cds albums to. Does anyone have any suggestions for a player under $100?” 5:23:30 AM 10/22/09
