Grand Canyon infoView Messages“bright angel is pretty popular. did you try for something that wasn't corridor? one of the threshold sites perhaps? with a little work managing water they are fine camp sites.” 11:24:01 PM 2/11/07 “The food at Phantom Ranch was excellent. We had no trouble getting our itinerary four years ago. We stepped off on the Kaibab Trail Xmas day and spent six nights: First night at Bright Angel Campground. Three nights at Clear Creek(ten miles from Phantom Ranch and a great place to explore up and down creek) Fifth night back at Bright Angel and sixth night at Indian Gardens Campgroud leaving about four miles straight up to get out. Xmas break is a great time for people who get a long break from teaching or other education-related jobs. And the weather is great for hard hiking. The low temperatures were about 40s at Phantom Ranch and mid-20s at Clear Creek.” 7:05:31 AM 2/12/07 “a good long dayhike would be to go down the kaibab to the tipoff, go west on the tonto trail, then back up the bright angel. it would be an all-day slog, but really good i imagine you gotta book a cabin months and months in advance jimmy san, how are our meal reservations coming?” 7:30:53 AM 2/12/07 “yeah, we tried 2nd and 3rd options by coming down the Hermit and coming back up the Bright Angel. Those options were denied too. We are still going and we'll see if we can get some of the "last-minute" permits that they hold. If not, we'll do dayhikes. We weren't too excited about the opportunity to sleep seperately so I think Phantom Ranch is out.” 7:54:00 AM 2/12/07 “Reservations at Phantom Ranch are hard to get. With this short of notice and also the fact that Bright Angel Campground booked I am betting the bunks at the ranch are booked as well. The bunks probably went first. BL4, BL5, and BL6 (Horn Creek, Salt Creek, and Cedar Springs) were all booked? Wow. Cedar Springs would be a stretch but Horn Creek is close to Indian Garden. It doesn't have reliably water but like I said, it's close to Indian Garden. Trying to get lucky on the day of arrival is the way to go if you have exhausted all options with the FAX machine... Day hiking in the Grand Canyon is a pretty darn good compromise, especially if you can get into one of the lodges. They are quite affordable, assuming you can get a room.” 8:26:30 AM 2/12/07 “"We weren't too excited about the opportunity to sleep seperately so I think Phantom Ranch is out." Hmmm, fancy that!” 8:31:22 AM 2/12/07 9:40:25 AM 3/05/08 “Didn't they do that a few years ago also?” 12:12:58 PM 3/05/08
