Brand new weapon for Trail DefenseView Messages120,000 runds per minute / 28 LBS “30 moving parts, and it's not capable of jamming.... "...I know what you're thinking punk, did he fire 119,999, or did he fire 120,000?....well, in all this excitement, I lost track myself; so you have to ask yourself one question....do I feel lucky?... well do ya PUNK?" http://www.defensereview.com/modules.php?%20name=News&file=article&sid=526 last edited: 1/12/07 7:45:58 AM” 7:42:30 AM 1/12/07 “I'll take two in .308! LOL! I was watching the Millitary Channel the other night and they were showing this new cluster bomb that sends out all these little spinning radar units and they detect any armor on the battle field and then ZAP! Everything within an area of like 6 football fields get pounded. They used it on a large armored column in Iraq. They dropped one on the first 1/3 of the column and it was so absolutely devastating and demoralizing the other 2/3 of the column gave surrendered on the spot.” 7:50:23 AM 1/12/07 “those balls are deadly...” 8:35:09 AM 1/12/07 “Most are...LMAO” 8:47:41 AM 1/12/07 “It has been WAY too long since we had a good gun thread going. Thanks ST! and uh... I'm with Nigal. Can I get 2 in .308?” 9:19:40 AM 1/12/07 Wow! “Hope I can get one i9n time for deer season.” 9:30:37 AM 1/12/07 Dear Season... “She can RUN but she can't HIDE. CCR Ammo....50,000 rounds of CCR might just kill a feller from the constant ringing in his ears......” 9:38:54 AM 1/12/07 Better Yet - 250 Mile Range at Tomahawk speed... “A new Rail Gun (It exists)...check THIS out! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,244593,00.html The railgun works by sending electric current along parallel rails, creating an electromagnetic force so powerful it can fire a metal projectile at tremendous speed. Because the gun uses electricity and not gunpowder to fire projectiles, it's safer, eliminating the possibility of explosions on ships and vehicles equipped with it. Instead, a powerful pulse generator is used.” 7:32:51 AM 1/19/07 “I want one of those non lethal weapons that gives the attacker involuntarily puking fits.” 7:35:01 AM 1/19/07 ““I want one of those non lethal weapons that gives the attacker involuntarily puking fits.” Nigal 8:35:01 AM 1/19/07 Just show the attacker a picture of Rosie Odonnell naked.” 7:40:07 AM 1/19/07 “... or give them a bottle of cheap tequila.” 7:44:44 AM 1/19/07 “A shot of Visine eye drops in their drink will provide the intended result.” 8:28:16 AM 1/19/07 “Ok I know it has been discussed before but I want to know opinions about guns on the trail. Who's packin? I know some of you are.” 11:21:06 AM 1/19/07 “Only when I'm hunting.” 11:21:58 AM 1/19/07 “Does Visine really make you get sick?” 11:26:13 AM 1/19/07 “Never. Safer on the trail than at home or when driving to the trail. Also its not going to do you any good when its buried in your pack, or in the tent. And since you can't carry it legally in most places (like in national parks), it will usually be in your pack. Might as well leave that lead weight at home.” 11:26:34 AM 1/19/07 “That was my opinion when I started but lately I have begun to question that philosophy. I am a pretty open person and don't tend to suspect strangers but there is a lot of annonimity here...” 11:31:09 AM 1/19/07 “annonimity??? naw - say it ain't so giggle” 11:34:06 AM 1/19/07 ““Ok I know it has been discussed before but I want to know opinions about guns on the trail. Who's packin? I know some of you are.” I carry every single day in regular life but on the trail I leave it in the trunk. Now if I am in an area where there might be the slightest chance of a break in, I will at least throw it in my pack so no one can steal it from the trunk. I don't carry on my hip but I do at least have it in my pack and at my head at night. It's practicality, not fear.” 11:43:11 AM 1/19/07 “I have always left the gun at home for trips, because I don't trust leaving it in the car so unattended.” 12:41:51 PM 1/19/07 “Not ultralite. When they make a 2 oz version I might carry. LOL” 12:43:22 PM 1/19/07 “Harman, I thought so (ala Wedding Crashers), but according to snopes there are far more dangerous reactions so using it as a prank is a no-no. http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/visine.asp Nigal, why the constant carry & pillow lump? Is crime that bad in your area? I could understand if you had a permit to carry due to job requirements, but you aren't carrying expensive stuff. meangreen - Mr. Anonymity himself lives relatively close to me but I'm not worried about carrying a gun on the trail.” 12:49:01 PM 1/19/07 “Well I carry daily like Nigal, but not on the trail yet. Ok, scenario: Show up for hike, don't know anyone, hike into camp goes fine, long about midnight things get weird, and you really start to wonder about some of the folks you are camped with as they start to show their true colors., Or someone shows for a hike who did not sign up, and they seem ok till well after dark then things change. Now you are 10 miles from your car, tired, and it's dark. Would it be nice to have a little security blanket? Absolutely. Is it worth the hassle, and liability?” 12:58:37 PM 1/19/07 “Nigal, why the constant carry & pillow lump? Is crime that bad in your area? I could understand if you had a permit to carry due to job requirements, but you aren't carrying expensive stuff. i like being able to carry to the trailhead and feel no need to carry on the trail. It's the possibility of the gun being stolen from the car that makes me throw it in the pack. Besides having to ever shoot someone, having the gun I am responsible for being stolen is my worst nightmare. Generally the only place I carry on trail is Red River Gorge because eof car break ins at the TH.” 1:05:51 PM 1/19/07 “Ok, scenario: Show up for hike, don't know anyone, hike into camp goes fine, long about midnight things get weird, and you really start to wonder about some of the folks you are camped with as they start to show their true colors., Or someone shows for a hike who did not sign up, and they seem ok till well after dark then things change. Now you are 10 miles from your car, tired, and it's dark. Would it be nice to have a little security blanket? Absolutely. Is it worth the hassle, and liability?” Have you always gone by the name Meangreen? I could swear we've hiked together before. LOL!” 1:07:02 PM 1/19/07 “I'm talking about your carrying around town and at home all the time.” 1:19:04 PM 1/19/07 ““I'm talking about your carrying around town and at home all the time.” Because I can.” 1:23:08 PM 1/19/07 “Have you always gone by the name Meangreen? I could swear we've hiked together before. LOL!” Nigal 2:07:02 PM I have been meangreen since before I started hiking, and nothing else. Swear. Hell The Gorge in November is the only time I have ever hiked outside of Indiana.” 1:28:26 PM 1/19/07 hmmmm..... “Is it worth the hassle, and liability?” meangreen 12:58:37 PM 1/19/07 Dunno...what's your life worth?” 1:31:01 PM 1/19/07 “more than a pound of steel that's for dam sure! And more than a fine for carrying in a Nat. park too, if I felt the need.” 1:33:39 PM 1/19/07 “The only time I've felt the need to carry was right after Katrina with no power for ten days or so. Before the Army started patrols, a certain segment felt it was open season on looting. I also slept with two guns within reach. The kerchunk of a pump shotgun being loaded in the dark is plenty enough to make most looters leave for easyer pickings.” 1:36:37 PM 1/19/07 “so you have to ask yourself one question....do I feel lucky?... well do ya PUNK?" I...I...I gots ta'know!” 2:35:49 PM 1/19/07 “I'm all for the right to bear arms, and looking at the patter of history, fear the govt that fears private citizen's guns . But suppouse you're out on the trail & someone threatens you (never happened to me, & there's greater chances of this happening in a mall parking lot, but...)- are you going to tell the thug- "Give me 1 moment while I unshoulder my pack"- get your weapon out, chamber a round, take the safety off, etc.- all while they have another weapon pointed at you???” 9:13:24 AM 1/20/07 “Hell no. I break out into my ninja kata with my trekking poles and start making holes in them. LOL! As I said, I've never needed a gun on the trail and the only reason it's in my pack is to keeo it from being stolen at the TH. Lugging the extra two or three pounds of steel in the pack is my responsibility as a gun owner to keep the gun out of the wrong hands.” 10:14:03 AM 1/20/07 “I'll respond to that. First of all, if a "thug" sneaks up on you while hiking, you're either incredibly oblivious and unobservant, or he's a USMC sniper, Ninja or other master of camoflague and stealth. Second, if you're carrying in the backcountry FOR self defense purposes, you should be able from a backpack on standing position draw your weapon and get off a shot in less than a second. If you can't, you're not carrying for self defense while hiking. If the gun is "packed," you may be carrying for self defense once you set up camp or for a multitude of other reasons, all of which are just fine if doing so is legal and you are have a valid CCW license. To answer, if I'm on the trail and a "thug" threatens me, 1) if he's pointing a gun at me he's got under a second to shoot me dead before he becomes dead, 2) if he's not, but is holding a knife in a threatening manner, I pull the weapon, drop my pack and tell him to come get my money, 3) if he's unarmed I'll ask "You better be whipping out that gun or knife if you want my money." If he does, as soon as I see the gun, he's dead. If it's a knife, see above. If he's unarmed and I feel like kicking someone's ass, I'll drop the pack and tell him to come get my money. If I don't believe I can kick his ass, I'd pull the gun and the cell phone and start calling the cops while he lies face down in the dirt with his hands behind his back. These are all "What if" scenarios. If someone has got their mind set on harming you and taking your property, they would probably shoot or try to stab first and then take your stuff. Being at a constant state of readiness and awareness is the best method of self defense. Your best weapons are your brain and senses.” 10:19:24 AM 1/20/07 “everytime the gun discussion comes up on TT, i'm always a little bit shocked at how different we are compared to our neighbours to the south.” 1:49:58 PM 1/20/07 “This is my backpacking self defense weapon. a lil on the heavy side(15lbs or so) but 1000 yard death day or night! ![]() for those with no sense of humor, i am joking about taking it backpacking, however I am not joking about day or night, or 1000 yards. last edited: 1/20/07 3:02:30 PM” 3:00:19 PM 1/20/07 “I carry a holstered Ruger P89 9mm while I am hiking the holster attaches directly to my hip belt. At home the rifles are in the safe, and my pistol is in its own safe in the nightstand. On the road and at work the pistol is in my daypack, on vacation too. I do not take my pistol to places where weapons are not allowed. The reason is simple: after being deployed to Iraq, I absolutely refuse to be a victim in any circumstance. I will defend myself and my family at all costs against any threat. In the United States I have never even had to take my pistol out of its holster. It is just a comfortable feeling to have it after having seen some damn horrible attrocities committed against inocent people.” 4:36:22 PM 1/20/07 “I have a Ohio CCW, but only occasionally carry on the trail, and when I do, it depends on the trail and surrounding area. I've taken a weapon hiking in National Forests in Ohio, but not taken it for a week on the AT.” 5:47:24 PM 1/20/07 “Hello: get a CCW or a CPL in your state and then it is legal to carry said firearm unless you are in a NP. Get a Safepacker for attaching to your pack. Then your firearm is on you, and easy to get to. It also protects your piece. http://thewilderness.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=18 You can get a strap, so it can be carried as a man-purse if needed while in town or in camp.” 6:13:21 PM 1/20/07 7:11:24 PM 1/20/07 “Hey Phils Son, what caliber ya shootin! I'm only good out to 600 yards (3 1/2" groups) Remington model 700 BDL Varmint Special .308 Winchester - 168 gr. boat-tail hollow point. ”7:16:15 PM 1/20/07 My Baby “ ![]() Though she has black rubber grips and laser on her now. The Safepacker in my hands: ”7:16:48 PM 1/20/07 “Why is it that gun ownership and the use of our guns seems like the only right that must be justified? My own dad asked me about it once and asked, "Why?". I asked, "Why do you vote?". It's my personal business. And if someone asks me if I'm carrying I ask them if they are wearing purple underwear. Someone's underwear are as much my business as my gun is to them.” 8:09:58 PM 1/20/07 “Sarbar is that a kimber?” 10:42:46 PM 1/20/07 “Yes, it is :-) Btw, this is a photo of the Safepacker in use: ”10:53:45 PM 1/20/07 “Yall have stated that the reason you bring a gun into the woods is for defense from people. What about animals? Your thoughts?” 8:26:39 AM 1/21/07 “I was just wondering where you folks do most of your backpacking/hiking. I do quite a bit in Montana, Colorado and Wyoming and used to do a lot in Tennessee, Arkansas, New York and Pennsylvania and even New Jersey. I never felt threatened or worried about being attacked. I am a pretty big dude and more likely than not a would-be attacker would probably think carefully before jumping me. I am 100% in favor of the right to bear arms and very happy that CWP's were recently made legal in my state. But unless I am in the outdoors with the plan to take an elk, deer, antelope or upland birds I don't see the point in bringing my guns along. Are the trails you guys hike really that rife with crime and violence? I mainly go to the woods to forget about all that stuff, and don't camp where I have to share my site with strangers, that sounds just plain weird. As far as National Parks go, they're nice to visit and have some amazing sights to see but they feel a bit like museums at the same time. They're more for city folks who like to be able to watch tv when they're done "hiking". If you find yourself in a spot with someone aggressive in the woods, a knife properly used can do the job.” 10:22:50 AM 1/21/07 “Thatguy, I am 5'4", and I hike with my son. I like to hike alone, or with maybe another female often. Could I fight someone off? No. I don't have the strength. As for the trails...I have little fear of them, but I am realistic. We had a double murder this past year on a trail here in Wa, of a mother and daughter, both adults. Part of why I carry is to have my husband's mind at ease. As for the NP's, come visit Rainier or the North Cascades out here-the backcountry is no museum ;-) Just good hiking!” 10:37:46 AM 1/21/07 ““Yall have stated that the reason you bring a gun into the woods is for defense from people. What about animals? Your thoughts?” I fear the creatures of the wild even less than I do the people I meet. That's why the gun's in the bottom of the pack normally.” 11:20:22 AM 1/21/07
