Nigal
I like the one by Phil Bloom the best because it offers more back country type of hikes. The other really is more about day hikes. They both are good. ARe you joining us on this trip? If so, I can bring them both and you can look at them in the car before or after the hike. (I'm not going to carry them to the camp site. lol)

Thanks for the advice. I like the 50 Hikes books but as you said, they are mostly day hikes. I'm not making this hike.

In da house!!!
Ok y'all, The park office is about 1/3 mile past the TH on the left. I figured we would all register there and then drive back to the TH.

OlDog: Thanks for offering some help. All these wild women just might break me if I tried to handle them by myself ;-)

Any late arrivals feel free to catch up. I think we will be getting a pretty slow start so no problem there.

Bessie Lou: great that you will make it! That's a helluva drive for a day hike though.

Ruby: Bummer!!!! It would have been great to get to hike with you again. Is John still interested in BP or did the last one scare him off completely? LOL!

Who are all these new people? That's great! Welcome to Hoosier insanity! Ain't one of us right, but atleast we are in the woods where we can't hurt anyone! LOL!

Stomper: I was thinking of changing my name before the Deam trip, and Crash named it Hoosierdaddy. Do you all think I should? It is fitting...

Anyone interested in having hotdogs around the fire? I am bringing some marshmallows and will bring hotdogs if there are enough people willing to eat them.

That sounds great, but I'm not sure it's entirely legal for you to eat hotdogs in such a public fashion in my fine upstanding hoosier state. We have public decency laws here you know! LOL!

What would be some easy quick food to bring?
Are there any deep creeks to cross would light hikers be okay?

for me, quick easy food = instant oatmeal for breakfast, bagel and salmon for lunch, and often liptons pasta or rice side for dinner

plus whatever snacks you like

no deep creeks

How are the water sources along the Low Gap? Seems like water sources in Indi are always hit or miss.

If I remember correctly, there is a small creek you cross a couple of times that has had water the times I have been there.
windigrrl

There are a couple stream crossings on the first leg, but I can't remember what the second half looks like for water. I'm sure there won't be anything deep so light hikers will be fine. It probably will be muddy though. The good news is there are no horses on this trail. I will be leaving my new trail runners at home for this trip sadly and opting for my only other option of huge azz hunting boots.

As far as food goes it's about preference. If you want something hot then take crash's advice, there is also the Mountain House route. I think Walmart is even carrying them in limited varieties and they are not too expensive for the convenience. The Chicken Terriakai w. Rice is really good, but everyone has their fav. There is also the old stand by of Ramen. It comes in about 20 flavors and the ways to spice them up are only limited by your immagination. Dump in a foil pack of shrimp, chicken, tuna, or turkey and you have a decent meal. Super easy. Try it in a quart ziplock and then you won't have any dishes to wash either!

I will be doing instant rice w. taco seasoning, ramen w. terriaki tuna, chili, cheese&crackers, fig bars, clementines, and some kind of hard candy from the gas station on the way in. This is WAY too much food, but hey it all sounded so good, and I'm a growin boy ya know...

Anyone know about group limits here? I think 10 is a universal thing ubt I'm not sure. Oh well, look at the Deam trip. LOL!

I think 10 is suppose to be the limit, but only if you get caught. I don't think we will have to worry about a lot of others on the trail.

No it's not posted. I'm taking my newbie buddy. I'm thinking it's going to be RRG rather than Low Gap because he's got shlt for gear and the RRG trip wouldn't be too far back in the sticks.
