Hello, I'm New
I've been reading your gear threads for awhile now and I gather that the majority of you are in the East someplace and know each other through various outdoor events. I'd like to offer my two cents sometimes in regards your gear questions. I'm in Northern California and work in SAR.

Thanks. Was I pretty much on the money about you folks being real close? Seems you are occasionally talking about going places to gether.

Welcome, I would say that. If you look at the "who have you met" thread, I think we've all met someone who knows someone across the entire board.

That list kind of confirms it. Few hikes in and around Yosemite and Sierra Kings Canyon. Whitney is a rite of passage that I have yet to make.

The western folks do not tend to be as social as the rest of us.
Their big trips tend to be private.

Got to admit you are probably correct. I got a late start backpacking about 8 years ago as a Boy Scout leader. Pretty much evolved to internal frame and travelling lighter with SAR. Don't do too many group things outside of SAR anymore. But you have to admit, if I was a snob from the land of fruits and nuts I never would have logged on in the first place. You guys do come up with some unique ideas.....

I don't think that's what Stovy meant with the "name" thing. Hang around long enough and you'll prolly find out.

You have to have a pretty thick skin to last on this forum.

Sticks and stones....after 34 years in police work there is NOTHING you can say that will get under my skin. Did you forget I've been monitoring the group for awhile? Personalities definitely take shape over a period of time.

Don't let the Easterners fool you. Quite a few Westerners here, including NoCal, SoCal, and PNW. Quite a few lurkers too.

Welcome SARguy.

Theres always room around the fire for one more.

I'm up near Redding. You just missed our annual New Years gathering in Lassen. We may be doing a full moon trip in March. Keep an eye out when it's posted.

What SAR group are you with? Perhaps we've worked together.

SARguy, there was another poster with a SAR in their name who stirred the waters a lot. Plenty of westerners here, we're just spread out. I used to be on Mountain Rescue with Mt. Adams as our primary area, but we were backup manpower to Rainier.

That was SARboy from WA. He went with us on a TT trip up Shepards Pass to Wright's Lakes Basin and Wallace Lake (1999 or 2000?). He got married to another TTer and I have since never heard from him.

Welcome to the board SARguy,

“The western folks do not tend to be as social as the rest of us.

This tends to be an "Eastern" or "SouthEastern" board just due to the demographics of the posters.

There are some Western folks who check this site out, though, and we do have trips.

Check back periodically!

Welcome. I'm in So. Cal and work as a Forest Service Volunteer in the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

There are a few trips on the trip page that include Whitney next summer, if you are interested.

that big ole belly picture was a joke? really?! (did i punctuate that correctly?)

OMGOSH i want a freaking drink; the oil in the salad dressing set my pancreas off tonight, THIS SO SUCKS!!!!!! (HA, too much punctuation!)

Actually, to be honest, the average age of the kids who have left and the one about to leave appears to be 18 2/3 years of age. I will be so relieved when they all are gone, now how to rid myself of. . . now now Pammie be nice.
