“Got home this evening after spending the Day with a lifelong friend. I had a great weekend. Excellent views atop Mt. Minsi. Great job Backslacker! The most awesome campfire and Weyerbacher aplenty thanks to no_granola and spindlette. Great hanging out with all of yous.We were Certainly concernED about Pennsy and Crazypace roping up for the half mile trek out to the parking area considering the relative exposure and the possibility of snow bridges melting and plummiting into a crevace (Thats Mount Rainier Lingo)”

“I met up with GreenMonkee, Lilmountaingirl, Spindlette and JackStraw at the PA 191 trailhead about 9:10am. NoGranola was still sleeping off last nights festivities, and wouldn’t be doing the hike. We said our hello’s and headed off to the lake Lenape trailhead. We started up the AT toward Minsi with real nice snow cover and a bright sunny sky. We took an easy pace and stopped along the many vistas and overlooks to enjoy the views of the Gap and Mt. Tammany. Before too long we made our way to Kirkridge Shelter, were NG made us all feel welcome with a few local brews. The rebuilt shelter was much nicer than I remember, with new benches, a raised table for cooking and a nice overhang. Plenty of headroom in the new shelter as well. No banging your head in the middle of the night, yeehaw. More to come later.”

No flesh this trip, and for the record I was sober when I slipped out of Crazypace's defective chair.

However, Mister GreenMonkey slipped down that hill so many times, he gained 3000' of elevation gain without ever leaving the campsite area.

Lots of good fun though and the reburbished shelter looks awesome.”

“We started to settle in collecting fire wood, cutting and building a fire, crackin’ a few brews when Pennsy and CrazyPace come stollin’ down the trail with Pizza! Penny’s the man, again! Pizza and Beer a big fire and sub freezing temps, it doesn’t get much better than this. Oh but it does! For the next 4 hours or so, it was one big laugh fest, with JackStraws 7 different ways to say Blithering Idiot, burnt mittens, homo booties, smokin’ booties, hot booties and totally destroyed booties. I think CP touched LMG’S bootie, but I’m not saying. People falling off chairs, and almost rolling down the mountain, only topped by sleeping bag condoms and bedtime buddy’s (hot water Nalgenes). The group decided to hang out on top of the shelter while we threw beers to them, a pretty funny sight, but way too far away from the fire for me. Then came the drunken phone calls which I won’t even go into to protect the innocent. Gm and I were the last ones standing, the fire was burning down so I decided to hit the sack. What a great trip with a great bunch of people! This will definitely be a yearly trip. Great to meet JackStraw and CrazyPace, and see everyone again. ENS, PhantomSoul and Lost Soul, you missed a pretty good time.

PS. My camera crapped out during the hike, so I have no pics, but I know there were lots of flashes going off. Come on people, I want to see some pictures!

I had a great time. It was nice seeing all of you again, especially those I havn't seen in so long. The camera broke so who knows when we'll be able to get the pics up.

“It should be a rule that the chair can't be set up on perfectly flat ground. That little slope it was on helped GM get some serious distance on those rolls. ;)

“I do remember Bake Oven knob being pretty ratty and now that I think of it, you are correct. I used to get Bake Oven Knob mixxed up with the Allentown Shelter, but the Allentown Shelter is one of the nicest. It's on a shisty section of trail though.
