What's up with Lake Cumberland/Cumberlan d River?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 2 of 2 messages posted.
“I'm hearing that the dam that creates Lake Cumberland is in a state of severe damage. There are 48(I think) boat docks on the lake and only a handfull will be operable this summer. The lake is already down so far that many bigger boats will not be able to be trailered out, due to having to back so far into the mud (trucks are running out of concrete on the boat ramps). I know that right now there is a houseboat stuck in the mud at Conley Bottom, the marina where my parents keep their boat. The outdrives are sunk in the mud and were most likely damaged badly in the process. I'd say everything I've heard is rumor, but the lake is already this low and I hear it might be lowered another 30 feet. That is going to dry up many, even most, of the coves. UT did a study and they're saying the damage to the dam is even worse than the Army Corps of Engineers is saying. I heard that Nashville will be the hardest hit if the dam goes. That sounds kind of bizarre to me. Nashville is pretty far away. Will this mean anything for paddling the Cumberland River this summer? Does anyone have any non-hearsay(sp?) info on this?” 10:09:37 AM 2/01/07 “I heard that they're going to lower the lake to fix the problem at Lake Cumberland. The Cumberland River flows close to me in WEstern KY but they said it wouldn't cause to water levels to go up much here.” 10:31:05 PM 2/01/07
