He spent Hundreds, I spent 13.97 (one troy ounce .999 pure silver)...

That is an old thread, but face it..Silver was at approx 14 Dollars, and yesterday it was just over 28.. more than DOUBLE...

Gold went from 800 to over 1600..DOUBLE

Buy low, wait for it to Rise, SELL...then wait...when it falls, buy it AGAIN...then wait for it to rise...

but the long term/short term is not the incentive to buy and hold Gold or Silver, the incentive is to hold an monetary asset that will still be valuable when paper becomes worthless (WORTH LESS).....

Saw a show last night about Fort Knox. There is a lot of speculation that there is no gold there! No one outside of the government has been able to see the gold since like 1974. Yikes. Maybe the paper money is already worthless.

The US has been a fiat currency since we went off the gold standard in the seventies, so it doesnt matter anymore.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York maintains a vault that lies 80 feet (24 m) below street level and 50 feet (15 m) below sea level,[7] resting on Manhattan bedrock. By 1927, the vault contained 10% of the world's official gold reserves.[6] Currently, it is reputedly the largest gold repository in the world (though this cannot be confirmed as Swiss banks do not report their gold stocks) and holds approximately 7,000 tonnes (7,700 short tons) of gold bullion ($415 billion as of October 2011), more than Fort Knox. Nearly 98% of the gold at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York is owned by the central banks of foreign nations.[8] The rest is owned by the United States and international organizations such as the IMF. The Federal Reserve Bank does not own the gold but serves as guardian of the precious metal, which it stores at no charge to the owners, but charging a $1.75 fee (in 2008) per bar to move the gold. Moving the bars requires special footwear for the staff, to protect their feet in the case that they drop a 28 pound bar on their feet. The vault is open to tourists.[9]

So people looking at huge quantities of gold isn't a security issue. We just can't look at our own gold..

Are people investing for real profits, maybe? Oil can replace gold, but investing in this country may even force Apple to repatriate some profits.

I prefer:

Make new friends,
But keep the old!
One is silver,
The other gold!
