Nothing beats being at the doors at 10:00 and having racks and racks of clearance items at hand.”

“I printed out passport forms today and am filling them out over the weekend. Looks like it'll be $180 for 2 passports. Prices in the Caribean are high in the winter and fairly reasonable come summer. I booked our trip back in the fall when they do a sale that is basically half price off winter rates and about a 20% discount off summer rates. The next time we take a big trip it'll be Tulum or Cayman. Who knows when that'll be. Do you know how hard it is go get sitter for 3 kids? Not easy.

Yes, I've had the forms in a drawer for exactly 7 months now. FYI, CVS will make you 8 passport photos for 1/2 the price of one at the post office. And you can take the picture with your camera so it'll be one you like.


I sure do hope my leg is better before early summer! BTW, Joe and I were joking about mailing Stumpchucker my cast when I'm done with it. How do you think he'd take it? It'd be meant as a joke.... does he have a good sense of humor? He seemed like he did. I don't want to make him cry or anything. Well, maybe just a little bit.


I think I did better than 1/3 off. Regular prices would have been $365.00.

REI changed how they are doing it this year. Rather than have it switch to 50% when it goes in your cart, they switched them all to 50% before the sale so the site shows the savings immediately. The problem, according to the email they sent me, was that the whole site hadn't refreshed at the time I made my purchase. Either way, I spent $114 on what would be $475 at original prices so I'm happy. ;)”

I just got back from our local REI. I bought 3 pairs of 54.00 Columbia Titanium pants for 16.00 each. The additional 50% mark down was on these (they were listed at 34.83, then half off that).

They did say that they were having some weird issues with the markdowns, but I didn't really care; I gots my bargins!”

“The thing that pissed me off about this sale (online at least) is that even if you put an item in your cart, it might not be there when you check out. I had three items in my cart, then went to check out and two of them were unavailable.

How'd you like to be in the retail store and you take an item off the shelf, place it into your cart, go up to pay and find out from the clerk "oops! We're all sold out of that item!"

Even worse, someone I know actually bought the Osprey Atmos 50 for $64, and got a notice this morning that they were sold out and they won't get any more from Osprey. So instead, they gave him a stinking 20% off coupon for one item. That's BS. they should offer a similar discount on a comparable pack.”
