snowshoes in motion on the Loyalsock Tra ilView MessagesTo add this thread as a favorites, you need to first login. “My friend Heath from my work and I are going to do the Loyalsock/Link Loop. Hopefully the snow will be deep enough to use the snowshoes. My plan is to hike Saturday from Worlds End up around Sones Pond and Camp on the Loyalsock Creek near the Horsebridge. Sunday, return to Worlds End via the Link Trail, passing by Canyon Vista. Let's make tracks!” 5:38:01 PM 2/09/07 “egads, he's headed for the super-secret campsite! >8-o” 7:37:06 AM 2/10/07 the info about the camping site is supa secret “who wants to go.. I think we might have the snow we need to break those mofos out. last edited: 2/10/07 10:25:19 AM” 10:21:54 AM 2/10/07 “I don’t know what they have for snow out that way, but at my house in NEPA at 1700’ there is very little snow. In some spots there may be 3 inches and in other spots there is none at all. I was thinking of doing the Worlds End Loyalsock loop next weekend, so let us know what the snow situation is like out there.” 10:54:33 AM 2/10/07 “You got your dates wrong. 2/22 & 2/23 are thursday and friday. I think you mean 2/24 & 2/25 !!” 3:40:30 PM 2/10/07 “doh corrected last edited: 2/10/07 4:41:01 PM” 4:39:48 PM 2/10/07 “LOL. I also got the dates wrong I thought you were going this weekend. Duh!” 4:52:51 PM 2/10/07 “so, is the weekend I am planning to go, the weekend you are planning to go? last edited: 2/10/07 6:00:06 PM” 5:56:49 PM 2/10/07 “snow storm coming Tuesday night..” 4:51:09 PM 2/11/07 “Snowshoes? Dang, you are optomistic. I hope you are right about the snowstorm but these days our "storms" have been flurries.” 5:46:31 PM 2/11/07 “We're heading out to ANF that weekend (me, spindle, neville and Doolittle). There's likely to be snow up there unless the weather breaks.” 6:00:56 PM 2/11/07 “thanks NG. ANF is too far. My friendHeath has been wanting to check out the Loyalsock.” 7:50:43 PM 2/11/07 “Snow? What's that? $@#%!! hmmm...this looks interesting. I've done this loop in the spring - nice hike. Are you planning on leaving cars at the ranger station, then?” 11:39:34 AM 2/12/07 “yeah park at at the state park headquarters.” 4:24:23 PM 2/12/07 “woohoo! Williamsport could get 9-14" from this storm that is just beginning to brew.” 9:36:37 PM 2/12/07 “They're calling for that much or more in my neck of the woods. It all depends on how the storm tracks. last edited: 2/13/07 9:02:29 AM” 9:02:04 AM 2/13/07 “I think it's safe to say, snow shoes will be used on this trip.” 11:28:50 AM 2/13/07 “I hope they get the snow that they are calling for. Crystal Lake Ski Center must be drooling right now. Heck, I am drooling right now. I hope we get a bunch here. I'd love to be able to ski right out my back door.” 5:19:22 PM 2/13/07 “I don't recommend you ski out your back door. Looked like a long way down to me. Although, if you video tape that, maybe you can be in Jackass 3. There is a pretty good amount of snow out there now. I think we're going to get atleast six inches here. last edited: 2/13/07 5:51:06 PM” 5:49:40 PM 2/13/07 8:42:18 PM 2/13/07 “Snow confirmed. I'm in.” 9:44:43 AM 2/14/07 “lots and lots of snow” 1:51:47 PM 2/14/07 “about 1 1/2 feet in Tunkhannock.” 8:17:51 AM 2/15/07 “I’d say about 12-14 inches by me. It’s tough to really know with the wind blowing so hard and blowing all the snow around.” 9:29:07 AM 2/15/07 “Sullivan County already had a few inches, so there will be a lot of snow. The section between Alpine Falls and Sones Pond may have a lot of heavy, snow covered branches over the trail that might make it slow going.” 10:31:59 AM 2/15/07 “Let's do it. We got jipped being on the fringe of the storm. Show me the snow damit!” 3:02:10 PM 2/15/07 “What time are you meeting Saturday at Worlds End?” 9:24:18 AM 2/17/07 “830-845 on Saturday” 10:45:28 AM 2/17/07 “Very good, see ya there.” 8:14:57 AM 2/18/07 “Are y'all driving up Friday evening or Saturday morning? I might look into cheap-o hotels in the area for Friday night...it's too long of a drive for that early on Saturday.” 9:37:44 AM 2/20/07 “it looks like I'll be heading up saturday morning. The campground is open at Worlds End and they have rustic cabins too with bunk beds. That would probably cost the same as a hotel and would sleep 5-6.” 10:25:26 AM 2/20/07 “Yippee!!! I haven't been to the super-secret campsite in years! You can always count on there being a good amount of wood at the campsite. Water? I wonder if the creek is totally frozen over? Pennsy, please bring your auger! Not sure if I'm heading up Friday or Saturday night yet. I do, uhm, err... have a house 5 minutes from World's End! last edited: 2/20/07 12:55:54 PM” 12:54:22 PM 2/20/07 “I'm heading up Saturday Morning.” 3:22:34 PM 2/20/07 “C'mon..... MARRAMAN!!!!!!!!” 3:42:09 PM 2/20/07 “The temps for the week aren't looking good. I hope the snow doesn't all melt before the weekend.” 6:13:38 PM 2/20/07 “Auger? I have a lot of gear but sadly I don't have one of those. I'm not signed up for this trip cuz I don't know what I'm doing this weekend yet. I'd rather ski than snowshoe so if I do get up there, I'll probably ski at Crystal Lake Sat and meet everybody at the secret campsite that night. I'm also thinking about heading up to the Dacks and ski Cascade and the Olympic Center.” 7:06:48 PM 2/20/07 “I vote you ski at CLC and meet us at the campsite. We're more fun that those schmucks.. and a lot closer. I had a couple beers...” 7:12:17 PM 2/20/07 “True, you're Cockadoodle Pennsy, not Auger Auggie Doggey! That's not fair, I wanna ski too - WAAAaaaaa!!!!!” 10:51:31 AM 2/21/07 “Winter Report Worlds End Last Updated: 2/21/2007 11:28:06 AM Snow Depth (inches) 10 Recent rain has taken total depth down a few inches. HONEST! “I REALLLY Hate to do this, but I'm gonna have to miss this trip :( Yet another major Bummer. ): I thought I'd be farther along with my thesis research to finally get out on the trail this weekend, especially after I had to bail on FYAO too. The fact is that the manuscript writing is moving along slower than Phantom Soul in fullpack (heh heh - just kiddin' Buddy!) and I just can't screw this up. I am majorly stressed out about it and hoping that if I can make some headway, then sooner or later I'll reward myself by getting out on the trail with you guys. I guess you just can't rush Genius! :-d” 4:51:49 PM 2/21/07 “Boooooooo!! I was gonna try and talk you into schussing with me. :o( I won't know until Friday what I'm gonna do but I am leaning towards the Dacks. One, the skiing conditions will be fantastic there and 2, I want to check out some skate skis. Cascade has a nice shop and they let you try out stuff before buying. If I decide to join you boneheads later on Saturday, are you planning on camping at the secret spot? If you have to break trail all day, it might be a challenge to get that far.” 5:52:03 PM 2/21/07 hey, check this out! “A gentleman from a Lancaster newspaper contacted me a few weeks ago about using one of my Old Logger Path's photos in a story. Here's the online version of the story. No, the famous deformed tree is not my photo. My photo is from Sharp Point Vista but it's not on the online version. It's on the print version and he's gonna send me a copy. Anywho, I think it's a nice story about the OLP, one of our favorite Pa trails.” 5:55:40 PM 2/21/07 “congrats pennsy, that is super cool. Nice article too! Hopefully we will make it to the super secret campsite. That is the objective. If we can't, we'll camp either at Alpine Falls or Sones Pond, depending on how far we get. Too bad bobo, good luck on your paper! may the schwartz be with you!” 6:45:41 PM 2/21/07 “Very cool pennsy. You can now add outdoor photographer to your resume'.” 7:20:33 PM 2/21/07 “I have to work saturday AM. I could be on the road before 12, which puts me up there after 3pm. Pennsy Mentioned a spot to park with a short hike into the secret campsite, and then I could do the 7 miles out, and need a shuttle back. Directions ???????” 10:42:06 AM 2/22/07 “Directions to the super secret spot? I don't think that is allowed.” 11:06:17 AM 2/22/07 “I guess you just can't rush Genius! :-d” Capn Bobo 5:51:49 PM 2/21/07 Must...not...comment...” 11:09:34 AM 2/22/07 “removed as to not reveal the location of the super secret campsite last edited: 2/22/07 11:13:16 AM” 11:12:30 AM 2/22/07 << back to Snowshoes in motion on the Loyalsock Trail page
