Key Taliban base wiped out in British offensive

More than 250 British troops supported by local Afghan soldiers wiped out three large compounds around the town of Garmsir late on Saturday night, the Army announced today.

The compounds were linked by a network of trenches and underground tunnels used to shelter Taliban fighters.

The Garmsir district, which lies near the porous Pakistani border, is a major conduit for opium smuggling and Taliban reinforcements gathering for an expected spring offensive.

Sure ting, Rev.

The commander in chief has no control or responsibility.
His hands are tied by a bunch of journalists and peace mongers.

If our forces weren't tied down in the mess that is Iraq, we could actually be going after the very people who attacked us and are currently regrouping and planning new attacks.

Yes, violin, it IS the media's fault that the true situation in Iraq and Afghanistan is not accurately portrayed by the MSM. I'm glad you finally get it.

You're merely looking at the winter lull, throwing up your hands and yelling OMG THEYRE REGROUPING WE'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING. You're so damn ignorant of the situation, it's no wonder you're reduced to hit-and-run news article plagiarism.

(p.s. - you're still a genius compared to MarkO)

Ah, then you have a typical liberal mindset.

Say, how's Grecian doing, Phaedrus? Or is his name Phoenician? Russian? Italian? I forget...

Phaedrus, define precisely what folly you're referring to.

Domino theory? Which one?

France and Germany were trying to hedge their bets. You deny this?

Oy!

France and Germany, according to you were going to fall in line behind the American lead to join us before the war started, so they could "enjoy the spoils".

You claimed that the invasion of Iraq would create an environment which would force the surrounding countries into ousting hardliners in favor of moderates, cut off funding for terrorists, and disable multinational terror networks.

You were wrong on every point.

Greeted as liberators?

Immediate democracy springing from the hearts of the oppressed, cosmopolitan, educated Iraqi people?

Oh, but it's the media's fault for not reporting less of the cesspool of terrorist haven we walked into.

Oh, and the Iraq war is one of the foremost fronts on terrorism. We would have been attacked on US soil several times since 9/11 if it weren't for the Iraqi war...

Please.

Lame, Phaedrus! I never said most of what you just posted. I did say Iraq was a good way to strongarm governments into cooperating with cracking down on terrorists - and it was before Bush fvcked it up. I did say that France and Germany were hedging their bets, but perhaps you should provide a direct quote for me to respond to. We're disrupting terrorist networks worldwide; Iraq being a part of that process. The other crap you're misattributing to me.

I have to go for the day now. Bye-bye.
