have to burn up remaining vacation
I'll make this short and sweet - I need to burn up one more day of vacation or I lose it. Take a look at the trip planning page. I'd like to start hiking March 16th in the am and come out early Sunday morning.... head down into Duluth for breakfast at the Chester Creek Cafe and then head out of town and back to Michigan. Anyone interested in joining?

I'm open to where we hike....

Mountain Runner, how far away are you? I'm thinking it's five hours to Duluth from where I am.

Let me think on this....

I don't know that you'd necessarily want to do it, but you know a section of SHT has been completed in/around Duluth? Just an idea, if you didn't want to drive so far north on a short weekend. (Although, obviously, the stuff farther north is sweet!)

We stayed a night at Jay Cooke State Park last fall, which is where the new trail begins. The park looked to have some possibilties. (reminds me -- need to get new park sticker!)

Quoting:
The Superior Hiking Trail Association has completed building 40 miles of trail through the City of Duluth. The last new section of trail will be officially opened on National Trails Day on Saturday, June 2, 2007. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to building the trail!

The next project will be to build the trail between Duluth and Two Harbors. Future work dates will be posted on the SHTA websites as the project moves forward. We'll need lots of volunteer assistance to build this section of trail as well.

Hey lizs, mountainrunner and I are in Kingsford... in the UP. We are about 4 1/2 hours from Duluth. I am not sure where he has in mind to hike, but I am sure he will take a peek at this thread later tonight. Are you thinking of joining us?

One never knows. Depends on weather. Also, I know of a backpacking trip within 75 minutes of where I live that same weekend... if I wanna horn in on it... or am given permission to horn in on it. LOL! Again, depends on weather.

I'm guessing the local trip would be the priority that weekend. Just based on gas prices and time... Also, I still don't know my newspaper coverage schedule either. So far, I can't believe how many things have been popping up unexpectedly, and requiring coverage, lately.

Honeybunches, I was wondering who you were and why you were signing up for all these trips... and yet no one was giving you the standard "You are a troll unless proven otherwise" introduction (and then asking for a picture of you in a swimsuit). Now I understand why. You must hike mountains in a hurry, too. LOL! ;-)

Lizs, thanks for the info :) One of these days, we need to end up on the same hike!! If all goes to plan, I'll be back out quite a bit this year - therefore the chances will be much better of it happening than when I wasn't getting out at all ;) I'm thinking for this hike in March that we will head up the north shore - not too far. I'm seriously thinking of just putting back in at Silver Bay and hiking into Mt. Trudee. I'll see if anyone else has any suggestions.

Hey lizs, I think it's partly the I didn't do what most other people do when they are new... post a thread that says "Hi, I'm new here" :) As for hiking in a hurry... well, I do the best I can when following behind mountainrunner - that boy can move!
