I have heard of several different ways people use footprints for their tents and I just wanted to see what y'all use.

Tyvek. And I always make sure it's completely tucked under the tent, none showing. It amazes me how many people I see set up a tent with two feet of the ground cloth exposed. All the dew, rain, etc will go right between your cloth and tent floor.

I use the one made for my Sierra Design Sirius 3 tent. I is a couple inches shy of the outside footprint of the tent. That way no moisture creeps over it and under my tent.

My tent has Arc Edge floor seams. I was thinking of just getting the one that goes with the tent but thought I might just cut a tarp down to size and use it. The footprint for this tent is $30.00.

I use Tyvek or the purchased footprint depending on which tent I use. Some tents are designed so that you can use just the footprint and fly together sans tent for a lightweight option when you don't need the full tent protection.

I use black poly plastic, 1 or 2 mil, I forget which... I cut a couple of 6 mil to use in some campgrounds that are particularly bad.

Mabe that's why the SD Lookout is still going strong after... 16 years(?) [gulp]

The black is better than clear because it dries off much better when the sun hits it.

I did get the store-bought footprint with the BD Skylight last spring (which just happens to be on sale again at Mountain Gear)... but it's too big, the downside of which as has been previously mentioned twice, [GRIN].

I haven't BP'd with the Skylight, but that screen roof is great for camping in hot weather.

Another option that I have used is to buy a disiposable plastic tablecloth. It's extremely lightweight and cheap. I have done that and used the thing at least a dozen times before it got torn.
