I suggest that because I plan to be at Friday nights campsite well before early afternoon...5pm is too late for me...” 3:37:28 AM 10/11/07 It won't snow!!! “SC!!! Don't worry, be happy!! Then hopefully in April, I'll do another 43 mile MNF section hike, and I'll have most of the 120 miles through the NF completed. Thanks mucho for the offer though, and you Kids have a great hike, up in YopperVille. last edited: 10/11/07 11:02:40 AM” 10:59:18 AM 10/11/07 “LMAO!” 1:46:51 PM 10/11/07 “Lol, I only bring bourbon when I know you're gonna be there to help me drink it last edited: 10/10/07 7:45:23 AM” Upluver 7:44:31 AM 10/10/07 OH, HE IS SO FULL OF SH1T!!! But bring your rain gear....looks like non stop rain the entire time :D” 8:13:01 PM 10/11/07 “40* and rain. Y'all have fun! LOL!” 7:05:40 AM 10/12/07 “rain or shine, I'm still goin!” 7:12:24 AM 10/12/07 “I didn't post the weather they had up yesterday....too depressing. BUT, wait a day, and it "cleared up". It's looking pretty good again, for now..... Friday, Oct 19 Cloudy Low: 32 °F High: 54 °F Saturday, Oct 20 Rain, mixed with snow early Low: 28 °F High: 48 °F Sunday, Oct 21 Partly sunny Low: 28 °F High: 44 °F Monday, Oct 22 Mostly sunny Low: 35 °F High: 47 °F” 7:21:33 AM 10/12/07 “If we can get that rain out of the forecast it would be PERFECT Cowboy Camping weather.” 7:22:26 AM 10/12/07 “Saturday, Oct 20 Rain, mixed with snow early Low: 28 °F High: 48 °F dang, thats the day I was planing to get up while still dark and get going! :O” 7:31:31 AM 10/12/07 Cowboys??? In the UP?? “Who are these cowboys and what is Cowboy Camping?? That’s not some Bareback, er, Brokeback Mountain reference is it? See ya later. Randall” 7:32:47 AM 10/12/07 “Save a horse, ride a cowboy!!!” 7:33:20 AM 10/12/07 “Re Cowboy Camping: I haven't told Mugsy about the timber wolves....” 8:34:19 AM 10/12/07 “Chin, mugsy would be running the pack! Have you told mugsy about all the rain and mud? :D last edited: 10/12/07 9:10:53 AM” 9:08:17 AM 10/12/07 “so...whats the weather update?” 6:55:20 PM 10/12/07 “http://www.weather.com/outlook/homeandgarden/home/tenday/USMI0889?from=36hr_fcst10DayLink_home It's gonna be lots of fun if it's wet...the trail has a lot of ups and downs, nice steep ones, and clay is what you'll be walking on in parts...nice, slippery clay...the one hiker I met on the trail had fallen a lot...he was quite muddy...remember to keep your weight over your feet!” 5:12:15 AM 10/13/07 “SC - Getting better. It's been a roller coaster of changes so far. Friday, Oct 19 Cloudy with showers around Low: 40 °F High: 57 °F Saturday, Oct 20 Cloudy Low: 31 °F High: 51 °F Sunday, Oct 21 Sunny to partly cloudy Low: 39 °F High: 53 °F Monday, Oct 22 Times of clouds and sun Low: 39 °F High: 60 °F” 6:37:24 AM 10/13/07 “Remember folks...there's no such thing as bad hiking weather, just poor clothing choices...:)” 8:34:45 AM 10/13/07 “I'm more concerned about falling on my head than I am about WHAT is falling on my head. I don't hike very fast under normal conditions. I REALLY slow down when the footing gets dicey.” 9:09:40 AM 10/13/07 “yahoo weatehr is saying only 30% rain. i'm not going to be too worried. well, nm, just checked again! Fri: 40% showers. Sat:AM clouds, pm sun 10% rain sun: sun mon: 60% rain last edited: 10/13/07 9:15:33 AM” 9:11:45 AM 10/13/07 “I'm working 2- 8 day stretches for this trip so it better be a good one :P” 11:41:57 AM 10/13/07 “ChinMusic, most of the streams are clear enough to drink with chemical purifications or a steri-pen. Also, the camping sites along this section of the trail will not allow all tents to be together, but should allow dispersed for this sized group for most people to camp along 50 to 100 yards of the trail. Some snow showers are common in October up there, but the snow just melts. Any snow accumulations would be quite rare. But look on the bright side, NO mosquitos.” 4:30:49 PM 10/14/07 “i will pray for snow. it makes the trail so beautiful. as pros said, it won't stick for long if it does, however. freezing rain would be more probable. as mata said, good clothing choices are key.” 4:33:28 PM 10/14/07 “Rain back in. This forecast is changing more than I expected, who knows what we will really get. I think I may leave my Vapor Trail at home and go with the Aether 60, as I have a pack cover for it. Pros - I agree. I'd take rain and snow over skeeters any day. The bad thing about hiking slow is that by the time I get to the site all the flat spots are gone..... Rockland, MI Friday, Oct 19 Mostly cloudy, rain possible Low: 45 °F High: 59 °F Saturday, Oct 20 Clouds limiting sunshine Low: 44 °F High: 54 °F Sunday, Oct 21 Rain Low: 43 °F High: 59 °F Monday, Oct 22 Rain Low: 36 °F High: 60 °F” 5:22:25 PM 10/14/07 “I hear ya on that one chin :D At least I won't be the only slow poke!” 5:30:21 PM 10/14/07 “SC (ZC) - Hopefully ONE of us can read a map....” 5:34:52 PM 10/14/07 “WK lent me his maps :D But, just in case, I'll bring extra bread so we can leave a trail of bread crumbs if we should happen to get lost. Although it is a linear trail...if we get lost, there is something deffinatly wrong with us! LOL last edited: 10/14/07 5:40:23 PM” 5:35:12 PM 10/14/07 “Sorry to say but this trip is not going to work out for me. I will have my son this weekend and will be unable to join ya :( Have a great time -- looks like it is going to be a great trip.” 7:06:55 PM 10/14/07 “Although it is a linear trail...if we get lost, there is something deffinatly wrong with us! LOL We have some of those "easy" trails to follow in Southern Illinois. Unfort ours are/were not blazed well and the side trails were EVERYWHERE. At least we won't need our passports, unless we swim a LONG way.” 8:19:10 PM 10/14/07 “Rockland, MI Friday, Oct 19 Cloudy, rain possible; breezy Low: 43 °F High: 58 °F Saturday, Oct 20 Mostly cloudy and breezy Low: 44 °F High: 53 °F Sunday, Oct 21 Periods of rain Low: 38 °F High: 54 °F Monday, Oct 22 Mostly cloudy Low: 26 °F High: 52 °F” 7:24:03 AM 10/15/07 “That weather is perfect. A little colder would be nice” 7:29:21 AM 10/15/07 “nooooooooo a little warmer would be nice :) I'm gonna freeze my tush off on monday :P” 8:09:15 AM 10/15/07 “OK, WK needs to walk on the north edge of the trail and SC the south. That will make you both happy.....:-) From the daily changes in the forecasts, who knows what it will really be like.” 8:15:28 AM 10/15/07 “Hey, folks, do yeself a favor and come prepared for a variety of weather. It would rain, sleet, snow, hail etc. Ya just don't know this time of year. Accumulation of snow would be VERY unlikley as snow in general in October is no longer a rule of thumb (it used to be a given). It is a pretty safe bet that you will see temps into the 30-40's at night. 50's during the day. Weather forecasts online will be highly inaccurate in general. Don't try to cut corners and leave gear home -- be prepared for a variety of weather conditions and you will have an awesome time!!! Wish I could be there :(” 8:27:10 AM 10/15/07 “I have a feeling my pack is going to weight 20 trillion lbs for this trip!!! :D” 8:28:55 AM 10/15/07 “layers, layers, layers... think flexibility and versatility. rain pants might not be a bad thing. good gaiters will be worth their weight in gold.” 8:47:35 AM 10/15/07 “I don't think I'll have room for my pack for booze!” 8:51:47 AM 10/15/07 ATTENTION “Can everyone except prosecutor and dhutch1 try to arrive at the Victoria Parking area at 4pm? Randall will be leading the group to the camp site at Lookout Point at this time. I'll be out with prosecutor and dhutch1 staging the shuttle for our return. We will be coming back to Victoria around 5pm and hiking into camp.” 11:11:50 AM 10/15/07 Trekikng Poles, Yes, must have ! “Everyone that has trekking poles, make sure you bring them, anyone that has an extra set might want to bring them for those without to borrow. If the trails are real wet or snowy, it will be very slick, especially in the rocky area's. Have a great trip, wish, I could make it, but I'm done hiking now, until the Midwest Mobfest? last edited: 10/15/07 2:24:48 PM” 2:24:38 PM 10/15/07 “I've got an extra set of sticks should one want to borrow. I got the message to be at Victoria Parking area by 4pm.” 2:34:20 PM 10/15/07 Jump to Page << prev
