nct, I hesitate presenting my offer as my body can sabotage me anytime but I was going to suggest, since I will be hiking my own hike and returning to my car everyday, that you leave your car at Victoria and hike with the group until Norwich RD when I could pick you up, as I will be parked near there if not actually there, and return you back to your vehicle at Victoria, unless you plan to start back at the crack of dawn in which case, I cannot help...

I suggest that because I plan to be at Friday nights campsite well before early afternoon...5pm is too late for me...

Whew, Thanks Randall! I'm happy to hear that and quite relieved. I was afraid I was going to have to bring warm things to wear, like socks or something. ;)

Thanks Babe,

But I'm now doing a solo 28 mile Manistee NF hike, starting tomorrow morning. Then hopefully in April, I'll do another 43 mile MNF section hike, and I'll have most of the 120 miles through the NF completed.

Thanks mucho for the offer though, and you Kids have a great hike, up in YopperVille.

It's gonna be lots of fun if it's wet...the trail has a lot of ups and downs, nice steep ones, and clay is what you'll be walking on in parts...nice, slippery clay...the one hiker I met on the trail had fallen a lot...he was quite muddy...remember to keep your weight over your feet!

I'm more concerned about falling on my head than I am about WHAT is falling on my head. I don't hike very fast under normal conditions. I REALLY slow down when the footing gets dicey.

ChinMusic, most of the streams are clear enough to drink with chemical purifications or a steri-pen. Also, the camping sites along this section of the trail will not allow all tents to be together, but should allow dispersed for this sized group for most people to camp along 50 to 100 yards of the trail.

Some snow showers are common in October up there, but the snow just melts. Any snow accumulations would be quite rare. But look on the bright side, NO mosquitos.

i will pray for snow. it makes the trail so beautiful. as pros said, it won't stick for long if it does, however. freezing rain would be more probable. as mata said, good clothing choices are key.

Rain back in. This forecast is changing more than I expected, who knows what we will really get. I think I may leave my Vapor Trail at home and go with the Aether 60, as I have a pack cover for it.

Pros - I agree. I'd take rain and snow over skeeters any day. The bad thing about hiking slow is that by the time I get to the site all the flat spots are gone.....

We have some of those "easy" trails to follow in Southern Illinois. Unfort ours are/were not blazed well and the side trails were EVERYWHERE.

At least we won't need our passports, unless we swim a LONG way.

Hey, folks, do yeself a favor and come prepared for a variety of weather. It would rain, sleet, snow, hail etc. Ya just don't know this time of year. Accumulation of snow would be VERY unlikley as snow in general in October is no longer a rule of thumb (it used to be a given). It is a pretty safe bet that you will see temps into the 30-40's at night. 50's during the day. Weather forecasts online will be highly inaccurate in general.

Don't try to cut corners and leave gear home -- be prepared for a variety of weather conditions and you will have an awesome time!!! Wish I could be there :(

Can everyone except prosecutor and dhutch1 try to arrive at the Victoria Parking area at 4pm? Randall will be leading the group to the camp site at Lookout Point at this time.

I'll be out with prosecutor and dhutch1 staging the shuttle for our return. We will be coming back to Victoria around 5pm and hiking into camp.

Trekikng Poles, Yes, must have !
Everyone that has trekking poles, make sure you bring them, anyone that has an extra set might want to bring them for those without to borrow.

If the trails are real wet or snowy, it will be very slick, especially in the rocky area's.

Have a great trip, wish, I could make it, but I'm done hiking now, until the Midwest Mobfest?
