I would like to go to the catskills, but where to go. not to much milage and please no killing me with elavation! no need for water sourse if there is still snow on the ground. Id like to go in March. ENS you around?” 8:13:39 AM 2/23/07 “How long you wanna stay? You gonna be backpacking or base camping. The Haystacks on the Loyalsocks trail is an awesome place to camp. If you are gonna be staying more than one night then a permit is required. But they are easy to get.” 8:19:51 AM 2/23/07 “I thought you ran away???” 8:26:51 AM 2/23/07 “base camp works for me” 8:27:08 AM 2/23/07 “im trying to.......just dont tell anyone” 8:27:29 AM 2/23/07 “Hi Mapes! How about the Thunderswamp Trail in PA? I think there's a whopping 200' of elevation gain - it's 26 miles total ~ easy terrain. How many days are you looking to get out for? If you go to the Catskills, Peekamoose Mt. is a nice place - from the trailhead it's about 5 miles to a shelter on Table Mountain. Nice place to base camp and explore from.” 8:40:31 AM 2/23/07 “mapes, tell us where you are running away too.... we'll all meet ya there!” 9:49:33 AM 2/23/07 “what is the elavation gain on Peekamoose Mt? bad knees make the trip SUCK!” 10:07:14 AM 2/23/07 “Peekamoose?? You're making this crap up, huh?” 7:16:32 AM 2/24/07 “LOL amrko! any other suggestions? need input” 9:55:08 AM 2/26/07 “http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dlf/publands/cats/slide.html This shows the elev gain on some of the trails, Mapes. Is this the trail you want to visit? Peekamoose-Table Mountain Trail (7.15 miles, blue markers, challenging-2,820 feet elevation gain from Peekamoose Road.) This is a less traveled area that presents a sense of remoteness, complemented by beautiful views at timely intervals. A distinct sense of history is evidenced by the red pine plantation, pioneer species indicating former pasture and stone walls on the southern end, contrasting sharply with the old growth forest in the interior. last edited: 2/26/07 10:00:34 AM” 9:58:44 AM 2/26/07
