“The completed trail sections total much less than 1,400 miles. Looking at a map I would guess that about half the trail is not yet completed. And some sections are restricted to members of the FTA.

“It is 1400 miles to walk the trail and yes that does include a pretty large amount of road walking around unfinished sections or sections where there is no way to build a trail.

Sass they don;t own the trail. The trail travels over private or restricted property in several spots. In order to secure right of way for a continuous trail the FTA had to negotiate that only FTA members would have access.

I’ve been content to sit in the background and have only attended two of the Florida trips although it’s right in my backyard.

I can start research on some trips and run it by you folks if you’re interested. The Florida Trail Association is right here in Gainesville and it’s about time I updated my Florida Trail maps anyway.

I wouldn't consider the Key West-->Katadin hike, either. It's now possible to extend an AT hike alll the way to Talladega NF, AL, tho. The Benton Mckaye continues from near Springer to the Cohutta Wilderness - prolly 50 miles. The BM now connects with the GA section of Pinhotti @ Cohutta. It's prolly another 200 miles to the terminus of Pinhoti. That's another 250 miles if the AT didn't quite scratch one's itch...”
