The lunar eclipse will already be in progress for western hemispherical folk. Euro Hike, Fengor et al will have ringside seats for the entire apparition, baring clouds. It rises at mid-eclipse for East Coasters and West Coasters can catch the tail end. :-(

TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE: Set aside some time this weekend for sky watching. On Saturday night, March 3rd, there's going to be a total eclipse of the Moon. This means the Moon will glide through the heart of Earth's shadow and turn a beautiful shade of sunset red. Totality can be seen from parts of all seven continents including all of Europe and Africa and the eastern half of North America.

“Complete cloud cover now. Nothing to see.
I saw the moon about an hour ago, lurking between the clouds, but it hadn't changed yet.

“Maple and I (with son, Michael) left the radio station shortly after I got off the air. The sun went down within minutes. Although I wanted to be home to look at this through the telescope, we got treated to a second best scenario. We were able to watch the whole eclipse as we drove east. What great timing!”

“The eclipse was over before the moon rose in Phoenix, so only the eastern US got to see anything.”

“A couple of years ago, we saw a red moon also. Interesting little footnote with this link. That night, Maple and I had to take our daughter to the ER. She had something caught in her foot that she stepped on. Maple was inside with her. I was in the parking lot, taking these pics. Funny thing was; the moon didn't have the red facade as it did tonight. However, it came out much more prominently in these pictures. Enjoy!
