New GPS uses 7.5 USGS QuadsView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 8 of 8 messages posted.
Now this looks cool “DeLorme just came out with a new GPS. Apparently it has USGS 7.5Min Quads and 5 other viewing choices, including Satellite Images. Anyone know anything about this? Check it out” 7:03:54 PM 2/23/07 “I just bought a Garmin GPSMap60CXs for a bundle and now they come out with this!” 8:50:21 PM 2/23/07 “mmmm...I want a GPS unit and I want it bad!” 8:52:44 PM 2/23/07 “I too have the Garmin 60csx which I'm very impressed with. I also have a 12vdc adapter, dash mount for my auto & city navigator maps which are very, very good. Also, Garmin customer service is extrodinary, however their topo maps leave a lot to be desired, but serviceable. Delorme on the other hand has excellent street & topo maps. I'd be tempted, but I don't know how their electronics are (or who makes them) and think it might not be a bad idea to wait a little while & let them work the bugs out.” 7:16:09 AM 2/24/07 “Dang that GPS looks sweet. The topos look like you could really use them for bushwacking. Now if they could just make them read thru tree cover.” 7:52:53 AM 2/24/07 “I still think I could buy an awful lot of useful gear for that money. Just don't see why I would need one. Go ahead and call me an old fart.” 8:19:36 AM 2/24/07 “After reading the review it looks like I wait a bit. Right now it's rather slow and even "locks up" occasionally. I would prefer a slightly larger screen and built in compass. What it does mean is changes are in the wind. Now that this is available, it's only a matter of time till the big guns bring out their own products. There is already another company offering satellite images. What seems to give DeLorme a leg up is they already have their own map program to draw from. The market should get interesting real soon :-)” 10:08:24 AM 2/24/07 “I'm holding out for near-realtime weather radar with lightning strike info...” 10:28:32 AM 2/24/07
