New GPS uses 7.5 USGS Quads

“DeLorme just came out with a new GPS. Apparently it has USGS 7.5Min Quads and 5 other viewing choices, including Satellite Images.

Anyone know anything about this?

“I too have the Garmin 60csx which I'm very impressed with. I also have a 12vdc adapter, dash mount for my auto & city navigator maps which are very,very good. Also, Garmin customer service is extrodinary, however their topo maps leave a lot to be desired, but serviceable.

Delorme on the other hand has excellent street & topo maps. I'd be tempted, but I don't know how their electronics are (or who makes them) and think it might not be a bad idea to wait a little while & let them work the bugs out.”

“After reading the review it looks like I wait a bit. Right now it's rather slow and even "locks up" occasionally. I would prefer a slightly larger screen and built in compass.

What it does mean is changes are in the wind. Now that this is available, it's only a matter of time till the big guns bring out their own products. There is already another company offering satellite images.

What seems to give DeLorme a leg up is they already have their own map program to draw from.
