“This past weekend I went out with a local group called Team Green. They do various outdoor activites around the area. This was my first time to visit the Laurel-Snow area. It is part of the larger Cumberland Trail http://www.cumberlandtrail.org/ We left Nashville under cloudy conditions. We knew rain was in the forecast. We were hoping to do our hike and get to camp before the rains came. We started out towards Laurel Falls. You can see where a lot of old logging roads were in that area. After hiking for a few miles we came to the trail towards the falls. Unfortunately we missed it. We were headed the wrong way and someone finally said something. After looking at the map we saw where we missed our turn. When we got back to where the trail turned you had to look for it since it wasn't marked very well. There was one part of the trail where you had to crawl thru some rocks. It was Anyway we finally got to the falls. We could see it from a distance. We were surprised to see the base of the falls with lots of snow. We ate lunch there then headed towards our campsite up on an overlook of Snow Falls. The climb up was a good one. Long switch backs making your way to the top. Once there we went followed the trail to the overlook. Nice views where you could see Laurel Falls and Dayton, Tn. We had a small creek crossing to make it to camp. Once we got there everyone found their site and setup. One of the guys got a nice fire going. We basically hung out and ate dinner. Later that evening the rains came. Nothing like high winds, thunder/lightening and rain on an overlook. The hike back out was rather easy since it was downhill. The only bad part for some ws the creek crossing since the water had risen during the night. For some it was there first time crossing a stream where they had to wade. On the way out I noticed an old entrance to a mine?? I walked in and you could see where they had built brick walls inside. You could see strips of coal in the walls. Looks like it has been turned into a party place. All in all a good time. Sure beats sitting at home.
