not nice. leave 'em alone. and i'm a Lutheran in case you want to know. God gave us free will to choose our own belief system whether right or wrong. and it's not up to us to judge.

Ask my wife. She's a pre-K teacher and the only religious sects that she encounters year after year that needs everyone to bend around them is them. When she teaches about the different holidays the Muslim and Jewish parents are happy to have the other religious views/holidays presented in class. Even the Jehovah's Witnesses have fewer problems. The Mormon parents require that their children be pulled for those lessons, without fail.

So, the moral of the story is just bring up other religions. Apparently they aren't that tolerant.

Goat..
If you can find a copy of "Secret Ceremonies" (now out of print) it will give you alot of ammo in that regard. Written by one woman after she left the fold. Rumor has it all copies in public library were checked out and never came back. I read a copy that a former member's fiance had. Good luck- it's a great read!

Mormon quiz

I would have no problem having their views taught to my children, SS. So who's tolerant?

i do believe that every parent has the right to pull their child from a class that they feel is in contradiction with their beliefs. i haven't pulled my child from academic classes, but we do discuss how this relates or differs from what is in the Bible. i did choose to pull them from sex ed classes. by the time they were beginning to teach it in 5th grade, my kids already had been taught at home anyway.

I don't see where he stated what was best for their kids, only that the parents are less likely than other groups to allow their kids to hear about other beliefs.

cb - I forgot about the code since I usually avoid these threads. In that case, I'm highly offended that tech offered to add his opinion on his extremely limited involvement with people of the Mormon faith, a point which he clearly made, but is still, therefore irrelevant.

What that an acceptable smart ass qualifier of my comment?

im going to assume that this is all for comedic effect, because completely misrepresenting and twisting someones words serves no purpose in a serious discussion, even in fuego

and just in case you really missed it, techs point was that of all the religions his wife has had to deal with, mormons are the most inflexible, even compared to muslims.

Reason being:

The foreman (I refer to him as "The Mormon Foreman") is in his early 20's. He plays Pokieman on his little hand held game during his down time and refers to a hard cover book often to check out the characters he encounters. Recently got married (for the first time). Doesn't know how to cook, so I had been cooking for him. I found that he never offers anything for the meal. I stopped cooking for him last week. All of the dishes that he has used since last for the last 6 days are still on the counter.

I'll start by mixing some Watch Tower rags with the local papers that I pick up while traveling the country. I generally keep them next to the toilet.

I guess I should ask him when he is going to get married again?

Eventually, I'll ask if his parents shook him to hard when he was a child.

Maybe later I could offer him a blanket?

goat, which part of your story about him has to do with his religion? all i see so far is a self centered boy idiot. i can see that in any boy of his age, hell i see it all the time, one of my own sons has hundreds of thousands of moments like this, and again, he is Lutheran.

so nbd, treat him like any other idiot wasting your time and money.

hmmm, intolerant Bastard? I'll have you know I do know both my father and mother, and they were married when I was conceived. You?
And pleas... please don't refer to him as my friend. He is my coworker.

I once read... You are not my friend, you are not my enemy, you are my coworker. hmmmm, now that I read those words... ahh, F8ck em.

The shaken baby thing is... Mormons don't spank for discipline, they tend to shake. I once heard a nurse say that she was so frustrated with all the shaken baby cases she had to deal with when working in Utah.

And the blankets... well, that was just a bunch of white folks spreading small pox amongst the Native American people during the conquest of the western states. I should probably scrap that idea and go with dressing like a Native American so that when I attack the other white guys, they will think I'm not Mormon. err, well, something like that. Google "Mountain Meadows massacre"
