“I've had this babysitter boss for about a year and a half now, it's so insulting - I was recruited from a position I wasn't happy in to come save his ass...
(I still think I'm better off working for someone who thinks he can control me than someone who simply hates me)

He moved me into his office so he could "learn" from me...last week he moved into the office next door, and is worried that it's not a good move since he still (after 18 months) discusses things with me before he answers any questions...

This morning I send him an e-mail saying that in 2008 I would like 4 particular days off, three because I have non-refundable BSP reservations and one for the Trek Across Maine (also non-refundable). Not consecutive days, just one day each in four different months. I get no reply which is fine.

Then I decide I want Dec 26th off - Gov gave us the 24th and the 25th is a holiday, so one more day with the kids would be great. I get this e-mail back:

"Phew. One I can say yes to. I can't answer the others until we have DHHS' appropriations schedule."

He has left during crunch time two or three times to go on cruises or to Florida. Got right up at 5 when we were still beating the computers, and said, sorry I have to go, then left for a week.
He also has a week off during one of the one day times I've asked for off.

Thing that irritates me - if my time off was for cruises, he'd be down with it, but since I'm doing that crazy winter camping and riding my bike a couple hundred miles #&%!$, (it's stoopid stuff in his opine) I don't really need to go.

Course I'm going - we'll cross that bridge when we come to it...

“He sounds like my wife's boss Twiggy. He lets her run everything and every time she goes in his office he's either checking stocks or playing solitaire. He'll get a Cortisone shot in the morning and have to take the rest of the day off. He's always "sick" on Mondays and my wife told her other boss, "Isn't that a sign of alcoholism?". LOL!”

It's not so bad, I'm just not a fan of being bossed (especially just to inflate the boss's ego)...and my 25 years are up May of 2009. Not that I'm going anywhere, but at least I can. :)”

“Hey my boss is cool, he is a "mission oriented type" meaning he give you the thing he wants done...and he backs you up when you carry out the mission.

Most of the time if he has to intervene he has a damn good reason. The best thing is we work more efficiently since we aren't worrying about "doing it HIS way".

“my boss is a great guy. gave me a "dinner voucher" for my wife and i... basically a blank check for dinner as a thank you for a goal i delivered on. what's even better is that he lets me work and doesn't remote-control micro-manage me. i have been doing this job for 10 years now and if he wanted a remote-control "do what you are told" person then that's is what he should have hired. this is a huge blessing and i work hard to repay his trust because abusing it would not only be wrong but also ruin a good thing.”
