i would say zero! ship it ahead of time to a local outfitter or campground. i had my whisper jet make it to new hampshire but they wouldn't let it come back. was a real hassle but i did get a free plane ticket out of it. this was in 2003.

My Whisperlite has made it on flights. The critical thing to note is it was before 9/11.

I believe you are allowed to take them on checked luggage if they have no fuel residue.

...it's airline dependant. call ahead.

ual, last i checked a year or so ago, will let you take a stove with a detachable fuel canister. you can't take a fuel canister unless it is totally new and never used (and I don't mean a butane canister, etc... i mean fuel bottles).

taking any fuel is out of the question on any airline which includes esbit, butane, etc either in checked baggage or carry-on. this includes butane lighters and matches, esp "strike anywhere" matches.

Stovie brought his pocket rocket (or simular version) on last December's Hoosier Orgy. We picked up a fuel canister for him, something that cannot be brought on planes...period.

Alcohol Stoves....
simple really, cut the parts just before you pack, and assemble when you land...buy the fuel at any wal-Mart, auto parts or paint store.......(Anyplace big enough to have an airport will have one of these places!).

I have never had any trouble with my alcohol Pepsi stoves. I do rinse them well with water and allow to air dry before bagging them and putting them into my checked bag.
Just make sure there are no gas vapors of any sort left.
My MSR Superfly, removed from the fuel can, I just let air out a couple of days, then into the checked baggage.

yeah, but we are talking a real stove here, not a pop can thing. you can't do any REAL cooking on a pop can stove.

My Brasslite stove never had any problem...if asked I'd tell them it was a weird candle holder...

I took my pocket rocket to Canada and bought canisters there. I believe I found the information on-line with the airline.

Any liquid gas stove has the possibility causing you trouble unless it and the bottles have never been used.
