Walking to Work

“So I'm walking to the office this morning and a guy driving buy shouts to me..."Hey, can you tell me how to get to 85?" (Interstate that is)

"Clean living!" I say back.”

Sometimes the teller will say "One thirty eight" or "two twelve" or "three sixty one". Then I'll reply
"Three sixty one? Take 36 here to Covington, then turn left on 81. Follow 81 about 15 miles to 361. Can't miss it."”

“I can't walk to work; it's about 9 miles from home. But we'll soon be moving our office and once we do, I will be able to walk from my office to many of my appointments. I love this town.”

“At my local grocery store the checkout lady (funny term in itself), often asked if I wanted the milk in a bag. One day I told her this well rehearsed story of another place and time when I replied in the affirmative and the clerk opened the milk bottle and poured it all in the bag. The story is contrived, but the look on the clerks face wasn't”

“I do drive to work but the closest I can park (relatively cheaply) is about 5 blocks away.
I enjoy the walk.”

It takes me about fifteen minutes to walk the mile to work.

Biking in downtown Newark, NJ...not recommended. I'll get hit or shot.”

One time I wore snow shoes to work.”

“It's about 8 steps from my car to my desk at work. But, I'm a phone-pacer so I get my miles in whenever I take or make a phone call, lol.

I don't mind the drive to work. There's never a "rush hour" and I get to drive along Lake Superior for two miles every time I come to the office. Can't complain about that.”

“I make G walk to work, and I get the car.

I'm ~ 15 miles to work, G is about a 1/4 mile.

“I used to have a job where I lived less than a 1/4 mile away and walked every day. On the day home, in season, I passed this big rose bush and would pick one (with the owners permission) and take it home to the wife (now ex-wife)”

I have a BIG umbrella.....golf-size(?)....and the umbrella usually keeps it from raining.

“MarkO - No, I live about 2.5 hours west of The Soo, in Marquette.

dayhiker - I am a recently certified teacher but there are no teaching jobs currently available. I got a job for an organization that provides care for children and adults with mental illnesses and developmental disabilities. The organization rec'vd a contract in Marquette for both the adult and children programs and they hired me to start and run the children's program. In addition to my job as "the boss", I also get to work with some of the children. It's a very rewarding job.”
